Zack Snyder isn’t featuring Catwoman in his HBO Max cut of Justice League, but he thinks Carla Gugino should be cast in the role when it’s time. Snyder, who is overseeing his director’s cut of Justice League that will arrive on HBO Max next year, spoke with The Nerd Queens and was asked who he would have had play Batman’s rival/love interest. Snyder noted that Gugino would be his choice and explained why.

“Probably I would say Carla’s Catwoman [is perfect],” he said (per JoBlo). You would have to say, there’s a flashback to ten years ago, where they were a thing. And then he had to arrest her, I don’t know what happened, or he had to let her go, and it tweaked him. And now, who knows what she’s doing now, she’s running some sort of international antiquities or something, and he needs to retire, and they find each other. Yeah, I do think Carla is — yeah, she is good.”

Gugino is known for her roles in Sin City, American Gangster, San Andreas, Watchmen, Snyder’s own Sucker Punch and, more recently, Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor. Her next role is in the female-fronted action-thriller Gunpowder Milkshake along with Karen Gillan, Lena Headey, and Angela Bassett.
