411’s AAA/CMLL Report 6.21.05

June 21, 2005 | Posted by Newton Gimmick

Welcome to 411’s exclusive coverage of Lucha Libre, I’m your landlord in this apartment of plancha, the Professor, Newton Gimmick. We’ve got some exciting action from South of the border this week, in a report that I actually didn’t think would happen. I was out of town, and had planned to a ‘Best of’ type of deal, but it turns out my wonderful girlfriend was diligent and taped Lucha for me. So we’ve got two fresh hours of the luchadors today! As a special treat, CMLL returns today! For some reason Gala has decided to show some new CMLL again, and that’s a good thing I suppose. Perhaps we can even get the Lucha Monday Night Wars back, but until then we’ve got some CMLL tonight. It’s been a while since I recapped any CMLL so bare with me as I try to keep a grip on the action. Its been 7 or 8 weeks, if not longer since CMLL has had a show. This will be a nice change of pace, and will have to make the CMLL fans happy. For those of you who are new to this column, then this should be a treat.

Before we start, let me try to explain the rules of CMLL’s Trios matches. There are two teams of three. Each team has a captain. If he is pinned or makes a pin, it counts as a pinfall. All the trios matches are best 2 of 3 pinfalls. However, if the other two members make a pin, or are pinned, they must pin the other man. Essentially, 2 men must make a pin for it to count as a fall, unless it was the captain being or doing the pinning. Simple enough? Lets get to it!

6.20.05

Averno, Mephisto, Olimpico versus Felino, Mistico, & Volador Jr

Mistico is one of the cooler CMLL guys, and he has creepy contacts in his eyes. Olimpico works Mistico over with some arm drags, and then gets him on the ground doing some solid if ineffective matwork. The CMLL fans blow their bull horns, and I DON’T miss that about CMLL. Tags to Averno and Volador. Averno is one of the cooler looking guys, but her eats some deep arm drags. The rudos rush into the ring, but the tecnicos chase them out, leaving Volador to work over Averno inside. Averno nails a back elbow. All three rudos get in and triple team Volador, with a double backelbow and a running high knee. Felino then gets a triple team beatdown too. This is following the tired trios formula that CMLL is known for. Volador comes back in, and gets TWO triple team powerbombs, that sounded more brutal then they looked, and all three rudos dogpile him for the pin. They get a 3 count. Mephisto comes in, but gets put in a Boston crab, and he taps out. Giving the rudos the first fall.

Winners of Fall #1: Averno, Mephisto, Olimpico

– Miller Lite, Good Call even in Spanish.
– Llame Ahora, 1-800-847-7573 for the HispaNexo system!

We get shots of the hot ringcard girl, as the rudos attack Felino to start the second fall. He gets double sledged from the top and then Olimpico does a big splash on him. The rudos then dropkick him out of the ring. Volador comes in, and gets clubbered. Then they set up a springboard dropkick on him. Mistico comes in, but the rudos all three elbow him down and pose. Sort of out of no where the tecnicos come back. Then Mistico does a nice handspring moonsault to Mephisto on the outside from the inside. SHADES OF GREAT SASUKE! Felino holds Averno, Volador comes off the top with a Psicosis-like leg drop and pins him. And Felino submits Olimpico with a twisting leg bar. Well that was out of the blue.

Winners of Fall #2: Felino, Mistico, & Volador Jr

We’re tied up, as the rudos discuss strat for the final fall. Felino gets a nice dropkick on Olimpico and a quick powerslam. Mistico and Mephisto get in and Mistico gets a rana, but no pin. Then a arm drag that sends Mephisto out, and he hops over the ropes and gets another rana on Mephisto. Mistico is one of the best acrobats in CMLL today. Volador in with some moves, but Averno tries to shut that down. He gets a arm drag, and a rana into a pin on Averno. POWERBOMB to Averno, but the other rudos break that up. Mistico comes in for help, but he gets triple teamed. Mephisto sit out powerbombs Mistico. Mistico fights off a second one with a rana, as the rudos have some miscommunication. Asai Moonsault by Volador onto Mephisto. Olimpico lariats Mistico down, and hits a variation of the F-5! He grabs him for something else, but Mistico gets the quick roll up, ala Diesel/Bret Hart and gets the 3!

Winner: Felino, Mistico, & Volador Jr

We get some replays of the various pins, and then the tecnicos celebrate in the ring while the fans cheer and blow their damn horns.

Verdict: Nothing to complain about there. It was solid, but it just seemed to follow the same formula. Its been a couple months since I’ve seen CMLL, and yet this was just more of the same. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t fast paced or as exciting as it should have been.

We’re back and we get a camera shot of the various Lucha skanks at ringside.

LA Park, Shocker, Brazo De Plata versus Rey Bucanero, Pierroth, & Shigeo Okumura

Brazo De Plata is SUPER PORKY! If you didn’t know. I posted a picture of him a few weeks back for a caption contest, that no one participated in. LA Park is the real La Parka, and boy am I glad to see him. I’ve missed him, ya know? This should be good, or at least entertaining. LA park taunts Pierroth to get him to start. Pierroth unloads on Super Porky to start, and tries a slam, but not even Hogan could slam him. He falls on top of Pierroth, then hits Pierroth’s ugly girl, and kisses her. Shigeo is in, and he’s wearing tights her stole from Jeff Jarrett. He takes La Park down, but La park is quicker then a hiccup and makes him miss a dropkick. La Park does a twisting bodypress to Pierroth’s girl, then rushes into the ring and does one from the top rope to Pierroth. Meanwhile Shocker does a leg roll, and then a half crab on Rey Bucanero. Super Porky belly bops Shiego and squats onto him for the pin as well.

Winners of Fall #1: Super Porky, LA Park and Shocker!

We’re back for fall #2. That first fall was quick, but it was entertaining. LA Park does his dance to start the second fall off, but Pierroth isn’t impressed and chops him down. La Park replies with a chop of his own, so hard that it knocks the breath out of Pierroth. And another! Porky is in, and he sends Rey out of the ring and fakes a plancha. Shocker tags in to fight Shiego but Pierroth atacks him from behind. All three rudos begin to beat on Shocker. Pierroth with a senton! Shiego gets a huge splash, and that’ll be 3 for Shocker! La Park tries to help out, but he gets rammed into the top turnbuckle, and held down by Pierroth. CROTCHED into the steel post. Pierroth is chopping Porky, and Rey Bucanero gets in some shots. DOUBLE SUPLEX TO PORKY! FEEL THE EARTH MOVE! That’ll do it, Porky gets pinned!

Winners of Fall #2: Rey Bucanero, Pierroth, & Shigeo Okumura!

Third fall opens with a brawl into the crowd with Rey tossing LA Park into some chairs. Super porky gets tossed into the ring, and Rey does a shoulder roll onto him. Shiego works Porky over in the corner, as LA Park ducks a clothesline and comes back with one of his own. La Park brawls with Rey back into the crowd, and he slams Rey into the apron and hits him with a wooden step. Super Porky and Pierroth battle inside the ring. Pierroth takes a powder, but Porky climbs onto the apron…FAT MAN SPLASH! Kenmonito tries a plancha and he gets caught and beat on. Stupid monkey. Shocker and Rey brawl it out in the ring. Shocker gets a cool reverse scorpion deathlock on Rey Bucanero, and he taps out!

WINNERS: Super Porky, LA Park and Shocker!

– MEXICAN SEASAME STREET! That’s right Seasme Street is in Mexico!
– ACCION! Domingo 7 PM!
– Chavo Del 8 now on DVD! Its the 35th Anniversary!

Verdict: Pretty good match. It was a little short, and they did half comedy and half intense, which felt a little odd. Still a little humor and some planchas go a long way.

Ultimo Guerrero versus LA Park

This is for Ultimo’s Light Heavyweight title. This is also from a different TV Taping so don’t think LA Park is wrestling twice in a row. They start with some mat wrestling, that sees La Park do some nice holds including a rear naked choke. Ultimo gets a cross arm breaker, but La Park escapes. We get a couple of quick pins for both men that go nowhere. Ultimo sends La Park into the ropes, and Park gets a twisting backbreaker type of submission, that was quite wicked to see, and Guerrero submits.

Winner of Fall #1: La Park

Fall two begins with La Park dominating. Some chops in the corner leads to La Park setting up the Code Red, but Ultimo blocks it. They go up top, but Ultimo reverses a superplex and drops La Park face first. He runs over and hooks the legs quickly, and gets a quick pin to tie things up.

Winner of Fall #2: Ultimo Guerrero

So now we are tied, after two relatively quick first falls. Neither man is more wore out then the other, as they both snuck in a pin and submission. Both men do a pose down to see who the fans like more, and it seems La Park wins this one pretty hands down. Ultimo has had enough and he pushes Park into the corner and unloads with chops. La Park reverses and gets 7 chops in the corner. Dance into a legsweep, and a springboard moonsault senton! La Park freaking RULES! Ultimo is hurting, but managed to kick out of a pin. La Park puts him into the corner and nails a reverse knife edge chop. He goes up top for a frankensteiner, but Ultimo blocks it and comes off with a SUPER POWERBOMB! UNO! DOS! NOOOO KICKOUT! That was a intense little segment there. Both men are pulling themselves to their feet, trying to get the cobwebs free. La Park springs up to the top, moonsault! Another 2 1/2 count, but Ultimo will not be taken down that easy. La Park gives the cut throat symbol. Park nails the Code Red….1…..2…..KICKOUT at the last millisecond! La Park goes back up top for a moonsault, but Ultimo splits his legs and La Park gets crotched on the top rope. Ultimo grabs him, REVERSE SUPPLEX! Brutal! That was a inverted suplex from the top rope, and La Park is hurting. Ultimo knows this and gets the pin, but it only gets 2. Both men struggle to their feet, but Ultimo kicks La Park in the gut and does the CODE RED TO LA PARK! 1…2…….3! Ultimo retains!

Winner: Ultimo Guerrero

The fans are booing him out of the building. La Park can’t believe it, that not only he lost, but by his own move. The other rudos are out to celebrate with Ultimo, as the officials hand him his title belt.

Verdict: Great match. The first falls were quick, but they built up the fact that both men were equal and could sneak one in on the other. The third fall was slow, but showed the wear and tear each man put on one another. The superplex inverted was a very cool spot, and this is a good little match. It also helped establish the importance of the title. Nice job CMLL!

We’re back and its time for a very special, 4-way Mask versus Mask match! Its our CMLL MAIN EVENT!

Dr. Wagner Jr, versus Universo 2000 versus Rayo De Jalisco Jr. versus Canek

Canek comes down to the ring first, in the most ridiculous looking Aztec type of outfit. The lucha skank he has with him, is a 10 though. He grabs the mic, and rambles on at first. How can we be afraid of someone with so many feathers in his cap? Rayo has a decent looking girl with him. His intro just lacks the flare of Canek’s! Universo 2000 has the saddest intro of anyone, which includes a video of him trying to work a lasso and failing. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen him without his mask, so logic says he loses here. Last but not least, is a elaborate intro by Dr. Wagner. He’s got the ugliest of the girls though. She’s a 6 1/2 maybe. Wagner and Universo get control early, and they begin ripping at the mask of Canek and Rayo. Universo nearly gets Rayo’s mask ripped off. Universo with a splash from the top onto Rayo. Wagner tries one to Canek, but Canek moves out of the way. Lariat by Canek sends the Doc over the top ropes. Universo sneaks up on Canek for a tombstone, but Rayo breaks that up and rips at the mask of Universo! Everyone’s mask is getting tattered here. Quick pin, but it only gets a 2. Rayo gets a crucifix pin, but that only gets 2 as well. Both men in black exchange chops, Rayo bumbles a plancha, and Universo capitalizes with another pin, but it only gets 2. Everyone looks really stupid with their masks ripped all up. Rayo scoops Universo up and does a powerbomb, into the pin that gets the 3. This means Rayo’s mask is safe, and essentially he is eliminated from the match. Which would normally be a bad thing, but under these rules, its a good thing. His mask is safe, Universo’s mask is now on the line in the final fall.

Winner of Fall #1: Rayo De Jalisco Jr.

Second fall starts, and its Canek and Dr. Wagner brawling it out. Whoever loses here fights Universo with their mask on the line. Make sense yet? Pretty cool concept actually. Canek gets a quick pin on Wagner, but it only gets a 2. Canek tries another, he then goes for another. Canek is hoping to get that lucky 3 count, but it ain’t happening. Wagner applies a rullup, into a submission, but neither get rid of Canek. Wagner gets a dropkick to the face, and as Canek rolls outside for a breather….Universo beats on him. Dropkick, kicks to the face and a senton. He doesn’t care who he’s got to face, he wants them sufficiently wore out when they meet him. Dr. Wagner doesn’t really like it, but he also knows its in his benefit. He slams Canek and goes up top, but he must be channeling Ric Flair cause Canek hurls him from the top. Canek tries to pick the Doc up, but Wagner gets a small package, and the 3 count!

Winner of Fall #2: Dr. Wagner Jr.

This means this third and final fall, is mask versus mask and its Unvierso 2000 versus Canek. seconds after Dr. Wagner gets off of Canek, Universo runs in for the pin. He only gets 2, and Canek goes nuts and beats on Universo sending him out of the ring. Universo gets to the apron to get back in, and Canek barely suplexed him in. Elbow drop by Canek, and he’s wore out and beat down but still in control. He goes for a backdrop, but Unvierso sunset flips him for a 2 count. Canek armdrags Universo from the top and gets a surfboard on him. Here comes the rest of the Grandpa Squad, and they are raising hell. This distracts Canek and Universo grabs him from behind and does a PILEDRIVER! Which they call a martinette. I guess that’s illegal, and the ref sees it. Universo grabs a half crab, but the ref DQs him for the piledriver. Canek wins by DQ. That’s like a 1970’s Memphis finish. It was a brutal piledriver though. Universo throws a fit.

Winner: Canek!

Universo continues to throw a fit, and complain that he did nothing wrong and was winning the match. Finally he gives in and unmasks. Much as I suspected, as we’ve seen him without his mask in other CMLL episodes. He continues to complain for a long time, and then finally unmasks. As he does, he attacks the ref that DQed him, and beats him up. Then Universo beats up Canek some more, and leaves unmasked, throwing a fit and complaining.

Verdict: Interesting rules for the match, and worked out pretty cool in the end. I can see why Universo would be upset losing on a DQ like that. Still, I had no idea a piledriver was illegal in CMLL, and what’s with it being called a martinette? If anyone has any info on this, let me know.

We get some replays of the “martinette” and that’s the show for this week.

Final Thoughts: Not a bad return show for CMLL. The first match was a little basic, but the second match had a little more pizzazz. The final two matches were excting, with good stories, and solid action. Not much I can complain about here. Its good to see CMLL getting some TV time again, and maybe we can get back to the 1 hour of AAA, 1 hour of CMLL formula that Galavision ran for so long prior to me starting this report. Either way, good show. That’s it for me, I hope everyone enjoyed this weeks Lucha Libre report, feel free to email me, and check out my Professor’s Position piece on ECW. Until next time, I’ll see you in 7! Back to Grundo we go!
