411’s NWA Championship Wrestling From Hollywood Report 01.14.11

The show opens with Joey Ryan and Willie Mack cutting a promo from the NWA Hollywood interview area. Ryan says that after weeks of waiting, he’ll finally get the chance to get his hands on Peter Avalon and Joey Kaos and then tells Willie Mack that he didn’t get up and open presents on Christmas morning, he got up and he trained. He says that New Year’s Eve, when a guy like Joey Ryan should be drinking and partying all night long, he was home watching tapes to study Kaos and Avalon and he watched them beating him and celebrating over his body to hype up. He says that he can’t think of a better partner for the Texas Tornado main event than his brother and friend, Willie Mack. Willie says that they’re going to destroy Joey Kaos, the not a Rock Superstar and not so pretty Peter Avalon. He says that he and Joey Ryan have been around for years and they’ve been friends and that now he’s got a partner in crime and he’ll reach to the heavens to crush Kaos and Avalon with the Chocolate Thunder Bomb. Joey channels the director and says Lights, Camera, Action, roll the intro because he can’t wait until the main event.
Match One:
vs.
“Mr. Megastar” Tommy Wilson vs. SoCal Crazy
Big points to SoCal Crazy for using a cover of an old NOFX song for his entrance music. Wilson and Crazy are both veterans of the SoCal Pro promotion out of San Diego and have history together according to Kenely and Morgan, who hype up both men in their NWA Hollywood debuts. Wilson attacks from behind with forearm shots and lays in some punches to the back of the head before stomping away at Crazy in the corner. Wilson with a whip across in to the corner and he hits a charging clothesline before whipping Crazy across again. Wilson misses the charge this time and eats turnbuckle before Crazy charges in on him. Wilson backdrops Crazy to the apron, but Crazy hops up to the top rope and comes off with a big spinning heel kick. Snap mare into a pin attempt from Crazy, but he barely gets a two-count. Wilson with a knee to the gut and a forearm shot and he follows that up with a whip into the ropes, missing a clothesline as Crazy ducks under and comes off the ropes with a crucifix pin attempt that gets another two-count. Crazy with a casadora into a cradle attempt that gets another near-fall and he tries to follow with a back bodydrop but Wilson is just too heavy for him. Wilson with a shot to the gut and a big snap suplex that gets a round of applause from the crowd before he sends Crazy into the corner with a right hand.
Wilson pulls Crazy out of the corner and plants him with a modified belly to belly suplex before he mocks Crazy and attempts the pin with a foot on his chest. That gets two and Wilson starts just clawing at the face and mask of Crazy before Crazy breaks it up with a jawbreaker. Crazy with a couple of big chops and he tries to whip Wilson into the ropes, but Wilson reverses it and sets up for a clothesline. Crazy ducks under, handsprings off the ropes and hits a back elbow on Wilson before he takes Wilson over with a BIG VERTICAL SUPLEX!! Cover from Crazy…1……..2……..Wilson rolls the shoulder!! Crazy to the top rope and Wilson follows him up, hitting forearm shots before climbing to the top turnbuckle…..SUPER DOUBLE UNDERHOOK SUPLEX!!! Wilson with the cover…..1………..2………………….Crazy kicks out somehow!! Wilson picks him up and knees him in the gut before laying in some body kicks as James Morgan goes into a great rant on color, suggesting that Crazy is from Mexico and probably shouldn’t be here while Todd Kenely reels him in and points out that Crazy is actually from San Diego. Great back and forth from those two.
Crazy eats a couple more kicks before he catches one and swings Wilson’s leg around to the referee. The referee catches it and Crazy drops Wilson with a neckbreaker…..1………2………..Wilson kicks out and pops back to his feet! Crazy with a chop against the ropes and he whips Wilson in but Wilson reverses it and Crazy comes off the ropes with a tilt-a-whirl into a SOCAL CROSSFACE!! Wilson is screaming in pain as he crawls to the ropes and instead tries to cradle Crazy with a foot on the rope but that only gets a short two-count. Wilson rolls to the outside and then climbs back up to the apron, dropping Crazy with a big right hand before he slingshots through the ropes into a splash. Cover…..Wilson’s feet are on the ropes….1…….2…………..the referee stops the count!! Wilson argues with the referee and Crazy tries for a quick roll-up, but he can only get a two-count. Wilson with a reverse elbow and a bodyslam on Crazy that plants him in the middle of the ring. Wilson up on top and he GOES FOR A KURT ANGLE MOONSAULT!!! Much like Angle, Wilson eats nothing but canvas, but it was a thing of beauty to see a guy that big try to pull it off. Crazy with a clothesline and a chop and he tries to steal a quick cover with a backdrop off of an Irish whip, but can only get a two-count. Crazy with another whip, but Wilson reverses it and catches Crazy coming off the ropes……TOMMICIDE!! Big time neckbreaker from an Unprettier position and there’s the cover….1…….2………..3!!! “Mr. Megastar” backs up his bravado with a successful NWA Hollywood debut!
Winner: “Mr. Megastar” Tommy Wilson (pinfall, Tommicide) **1/2
Nice debut for both guys with Wilson looking like someone that the promotion is planning to get behind with a bit of a push. Hopefully Crazy doesn’t fall into job status with the loss as he has a lot to offer as well if he’s given the chance. The work in the ring was solid and this was a good way to start out the show, even if there were times where the match itself felt a little disjointed.
After the match, Jeff Resnick is in the ring with “Mr. Megastar” Tommy Wilson and Resnick calls it a big win for a debuting Tommy Wilson and Wilson cuts him off to remind him that he is indeed, “Mr. Megastar”. He tells all the idiots at home to remember it and then says that it was an easy win for him and he had it in the bag from the start. He says that the only competition in NWA Hollywood are guys like NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce, Colt Cabana and Austin Aries and that he’s going to run all over the rest of the competition until he gets his shot at the title. He even adds in a little “kiss my ass” for the crowd on his way to the locker room to boot.
Match Two:

vs.

The Tribe (Hawaiian Lion and Navajo Warrior) w/Olivia vs. Skullkrusher Rasche Brown and Slymm
We get highlights from the last time these two teams met with a big brawl leading to a double-disqualification before The Tribe make their way out first and then hide on either side of the entrance ramp to attack Brown and Slymm as they come out. They attack and it’s a huge brawl on the floor with Slymm and Warrior paired off and Brown and Lion paired off. Warrior goes for a big chop on Slymm but misses and hits the ringpost while Lion hits a cheapshot to the gut on Brown. Brown fights back and rams Lion into the barricade while Slymm takes over on Warrior with a kick to the gut and some right hands. Brown rolls Lion into the ring and Slymm rolls Warrior in as the faces make their way into the ring and hit a big double-hip toss on Lion. Brown with a big kneedrop and Slymm follows up with a juke and jive elbowdrop that leads to a cover….1…..2……..Lion kicks out rather easily. Slymm hits the ropes and Warrior knees him in the back, distracting him long enough for Lion to set up and hit a big dropkick.
Lion shoves Slymm into the corner and lays in some vicious offense before tagging Warrior in. NASTY double-chop from Warrior and he pushes Slymm into the ropes for another chop and another before he charges and clotheslines Slymm over the top rope to the floor!! Slymm went over hard and smashed his foot against the barricade, but he shakes it off to get back into the ring. Warrior hits the ropes to load up on a charge, but Slymm follows him in and clotheslines him down hard! Lion sneaks in and clotheslines Slymm over the top rope again and all three men are on the floor on the outside with only Brown left in the ring. Brown pumps up the crowd and looks like he’s setting up for a dive, but Olivia rolls into the ring to stop him! Brown locks the goozle in on Olivia and looks like he’s going to chokeslam her ass, but WARRIOR WAFFLES HIM WITH THE TOMAHAWK AXE!! Cover…..1…………2…………….3!!!! The Tribe picks up the win, even though it’s in somewhat controversial fashion.
Winners: The Tribe (pinfall, Warrior’s axe shot on Brown) *3/4
Not a lot here as they seemed to be trying to keep this one a little shorter so that the four big guys wouldn’t get too winded. That being said, it was a good little power match, which is something that’s different from what nearly everyone else on the roster is offering with their size and quickness. I actually liked the finish as it gives the teams a reason to keep their feud going, while also keeping them fresh in the minds of the fans when it comes to the title picture as well.
After the match, we get a video package for “The Mirror Image” Ricky Mandel, which is set to “Centerfold” by J. Geils Band and this honestly feels like something that could have been done in Memphis about thirty years ago and I mean that as the most sincerest of compliments. Apparently, Mandel is coming soon to NWA Championship Wrestling From Hollywood, but hopefully not before we get another couple of chances to see that video.
After the break, we hear from Nick Madrid, who is in the NWA interview area with David Marquez. Madrid says that he beat Pearce for the 1-2-3 and that he said he was coming to Hollywood to seize his opportunity and that he feels like he did it. Marquez points out that Pearce is nothing if not vindictive and that Madrid may have to watch his back for the next few years and Madrid says that he knows he’s got a target on his back but he’s going to keep one eye on Pearce and one eye on the rest of the competition in the NWA. Marquez asks him about people calling it a fluke and he says that it was no fluke and that he said he was coming to NWA Hollywood with a purpose and that he came through with it. Marquez asks Madrid if he thinks that he might be able to get another chance at Pearce in the future with the title on the line and Madrid says that it’s a little too early to tell even though he beat the champ because he’s not the champ and he’s never been a champ. He adds that it might just be a matter of time, but it’s a long road ahead of him and he has to keep going forward.
Match Three:
vs.
Buggy vs. New York Nikki
Nikki stops to sign an autograph for the same fan that has been stalking Rico Dynamite in the past few weeks, who is now wearing a Nikki t-shirt, and she makes her way into the ring to get this bout underway. Lock-up and Nikki hits a go-behind into a waistlock, but Buggy switches out and tries for a hammerlock as Nikki makes the ropes for the break. Another lock-up and Nikki moves to a side headlock before taking Buggy over. Buggy works the headscissors to escape, but Nikki goes right back into side headlock after using a headstand to break out of the hold. Buggy fights to her feet and reverses to a headlock of her own, cranking away before Nikki breaks it with a pair of shots to the gut. Nikki sends Buggy into the ropes and tries for a sidewalk slam, but Buggy turns it into a tilt-a-whirl headscissors takeover followed by an armdrag. Dropkick from Buggy drops Nikki and she fires up the crowd before she charges at Nikki, but Nikki lowbridges her and puts her out through the ropes to the floor. Nikki heads out after her and lays in some stomps before throwing Buggy back into the ring.
Nikki follows her in and takes a shot to the gut from Buggy before laying in four or five hard forearm shots to the back. Nikki picks her up by the hair and hits a STIFF chop against the ropes before following up with another in the corner! Nikki with a whip into the ropes and she ducks down for a backdrop but Buggy goes over with the sunset flip attempt! 1……2……..Nikki grabs the bottom rope to break the count!! Nikki with a kick to the gut and she rams her into the turnbuckle before trying a whip across into the corner. Buggy reverses and sends Nikki in, charging after her and getting caught as Nikki sits her up on the top buckle. Buggy kicks Nikki in the face and then tries for a crossbody off the second rope and hits it!! Unfortunately, she can’t capitalize with a pin attempt and Nikki goes behind with a roll-up attempt against the ropes. Buggy holds onto the ropes and then ducks under a big boot from Nikki. Roll-up from Buggy…..1…….2……….3!! Buggy picks up the win in a bit of an upset over the tough veteran!!
Winner: Buggy (pinfall, roll-up) **
Good, solid match from the lethal ladies with Buggy continuing her roll as of late with another big win. Hard to give much more to the ladies matches when they don’t really have any storylines to play off of and all, but they’re putting on better matches week in and week out than pretty much all of TNA and WWE combined, which is fun to watch.
After the match, David Marquez is in the NWA Hollywood interview area with former NWA Heritage Tag Team Champions, The RockNES Monsters. Marquez asks them about how Natural Selection stole the titles from them. Goodtime says that in his life the greatest day he ever had was when he beat all six Mega Man games in one day, but that the feeling he had when he and his partner Johnny Yuma won the NWA Heritage Tag Team Titles was even better. He adds that they’re not champions right now, but that they plan on doing something about that. Yuma jumps in and says that they are going to do something about it, saying that they’re mad that they got screwed out of their titles, but they’re not going to waste their energy yelling and screaming backstage. Instead, they’re going to let it build up and bring that energy into the ring with them when they face Natural Selection again. Yuma calls Brian Cage a big dummy and finishes off by saying that they’re about to hit the restart button and that Natural Selection better be ready to rock because the RockNES Monsters are always ready to roll. Fun promo from the two of them and probably the first time they’ve had any real talking time on the program. Hopefully they get a little more as that was actually pretty darn good.
Back from the commercial break and David Marquez is in the ring with “A-Double” Austin Aries. Aries makes Marquez open the ropes for him and then says that he asked for the time but he’s not sure that Marquez needs to be out here and he asks if he can dismiss him. Marquez stands his ground and Aries moves on to talk about Scorpio Sky, saying that he’s good but he’s not great. He says he’s better looking than Sky, a better dresser than Sky, a better dancer than Sky, which makes him blacker than Sky and that everyone in Hollywood knows that he’s a better wrestler than Sky. Last week though, Sky got the win and that the sun shines on a dog’s ass every once in a while and that last week the sun was shining on a scorpion’s ass. Aries says that he could say to Sky that they could settle it once and for all and he could prove that he’s the greatest man that ever lived, but that he’s got a better idea. He says he’s got a better idea but before we can hear it, he gets cut off by a guy in the crowd and turns to address the situation. He says that if he wants to be part of the show, he can step over the rail and try it and that he doesn’t look like he knows anything about pull-ups but he probably knows a lot about fruit roll-ups. With that done, Aries gets back to the matter at hand, saying that one time is a fluke, two times starts a trend, but if Sky can beat him three times, he’ll shake Sky’s hand and admit that he’s the better man. Aries says that he wants best of five, Aries vs. Sky and that Sky already has a one match handicap, which he needs because he thinks that Sky is slightly retarded. He says that if he’s man enough, he’ll sign up for the best of five, Aries vs. Sky and he’ll make it happen.
From there, we’re back in the NWA interview area with “Pretty” Peter Avalon and Joey Kaos with Jeff Resnick and Kaos says that he’s been licking his chops and waiting for weeks for this match to get his hands on Mack and Ryan and that it wasn’t good enough for him when he stuffed his boot into Ryan’s face and it wasn’t good enough when Avalon pinned him for the 1-2-3. Tonight, Kaos promises that it’s their night and that they’re going to beat Mack and Ryan from pillar to post. Avalon says that what Kaos just said could get repeated over and over and over again and that tonight, Joey Ryan and Willie Mack will be done.
Match Four:
vs.
Robbie Phoenix vs. Ryan Ramos
David Marquez joins in and says that this is a preview to next week’s show with footage from the January 8th TV taping. It’s worth noting that the building looks tremendous and gives off a great studio-type feel with the new set-up they have. Marquez hypes the next taping on February 12th and then throws it to the broadcast team for all of the action. Crowd seems to be behind Ramos here, but it doesn’t help him early on as Phoenix rakes the eyes and goes to the gut with a big knee and some right hands. Whip in from Phoenix and he hits a BIG clothesline into a quick two-count. Phoenix with an arm-wringer into a PUMPHANDLE WHEELBARROW NECKBREAKER!! Holy hell, that was an impressive move and something I have never seen before. Phoenix with another cover, but surprisingly he only gets two again. Phoenix kicks Ramos square in the spine and then hits the ropes to stomp Ramos in the face. Another cover and Ramos kicks out again at two.
Phoenix with a big kick and he whips Ramos into the ropes, missing a clothesline as Ramos hits a botched spinning heel kick and kips up to his feet. Ramos drops an elbow to the leg and drops another to the head of Phoenix before he covers and gets a one-count. Ramos with a right hand and he whips Phoenix into the corner, following up with a big clothesline! Ramos up on the top rope and he connects with a flying bodypress off the top rope!! 1……..2………..Phoenix rolls the shoulder! Ramos sets up for an Irish whip and HERE COMES JASON WATTS!! FOREARM SHIVER TO PHOENIX!! CLUBBING FOREARM TO RAMOS!! Watts whips Phoenix into the ropes and drops him with a MASSIVE pump kick to the face!! Phoenix rolls to the outside and Ramos is in trouble as Watts sets him up……….VICIOUS RAZOR’S EDGE AS WATTS THROWS RAMOS ABOUT AN EXTRA THREE FEET IN THE AIR!! He sends Ramos to the outside and then raises a fist to the crowd before making his way out of the ring……BIG BOOT TO THE FACE OF RAMOS ON HIS WAY OUT!!!
Winner: None (no contest, Big Nasty-ference) *
Hard to rate as this was just there to allow Watts to lay waste to the two enhancement guys, but I have to admit that Phoenix pulled out a couple of pretty cool moves in the match that brought me into it a little more. Watts appears like he’ll be set up like the old 911 gimmick in ECW where he just destroys people with huge moves and wreaks havoc with no rhyme or reason.
Back from the break and Joey Ryan is talking about Avalon and Kaos, calling them two talented guys that didn’t really have any direction and that those are the kinds of people that Adam Pearce wants to recruit and use to keep himself on top while using their talents for his own needs. He says that if that’s the path they want to choose and they want to get in his business, he’ll gladly stick his nose right back in theirs. He says that he and Willie Mack have been friends for a long time and that he considers him a brother in wrestling. He says that Mack has his own story and his own troubles and that he tried to help Mack when Willie was just starting out to help him grow in the business. He says that the effort he put in is paying dividends and it’s like karma is paying him back with Mack watching his back against Avalon and Kaos. He says that a Texas Tornado match brings the unexpected because people see Ryan as a light-hearted party guy and Mack as a fun-loving kind of guy, but they both have mean streaks that come out when they get motivated. Ryan says that they don’t need any more motivation than what they already have from Avalon and Kaos and with that, it’s time for the main event of the evening!
Match Five: Texas Tornado Match
vs.

Willie Mack and “Hollywood’s Own” Joey Ryan vs. “Pretty” Peter Avalon and “Rock Superstar” Joey Kaos
This one should be murder to try to keep up with, but I’ll do my best. Avalon and Kaos hit the ring, but Mack and Ryan meet them on the floor! Brawling from all four guys with Mack hammering on Kaos and Ryan beating down Avalon. Mack rams Kaos’ face into the apron and lights up his chest with a big chop as Ryan rolls Avalon into the ring. Ryan with a big chop in the corner on Avalon and he whips Avalon across HARD into the buckle as Mack and Kaos are still battling on the floor. Right hands from Ryan as Avalon tries to fight back, but he gets cut off with more punches before he shoulders Ryan in the gut. Avalon with hard forearm shots to the back and some stomps as Mack rams Kaos’ back into the apron. Avalon standing on Ryan’s neck and using the ropes for leverage in the ring while Kaos fires back at Mack on the floor with big punches. All four men on the floor now and Kaos is choking Willie against the barricade while Avalon is hammering on Ryan on the opposite side of the ring.
Mack and Kaos in the ring now and Kaos hits a knee to the gut and a big chop to the chest and another that knocks Mack into the ropes. Kaos with an Irish whip attempt but Mack reverses it and misses a pair of reverse elbows before he takes Kaos down into the ropes with a drop toehold. Mack revs it up against the ropes and hits a 619….or I guess in Willie’s case it’d be called a 323. Either way, it was impressive as hell to see the big man hit a move like that. Unfortunately for Mack, he doesn’t get a chance to celebrate as Avalon hits him with a springboard dropkick that sends Mack off the apron to the floor! Ryan back in the ring and he charges and drops Avalon with a reverse elbow but Kaos is up and knees Ryan down to the mat. Kaos lays in some stomps and just starts choking away at Ryan before Avalon whips Ryan into the ropes for a beautiful dropkick. Avalon plays to the crowd as Kaos drops Ryan with a right hand and Avalon follows that up with a kneedrop. Kaos hits a shot and covers Ryan for a short two-count as Avalon throws Mack into the front of the stage at the Showcase, right in front of the announce table. Kaos chokes Ryan across the middle rope before Avalon just stands on Ryan’s back and chokes him even worse.
They continue with the double-teaming on Ryan, hitting chops before Ryan battles back with some punches. Kaos cuts him off with an elbow to the back of the head and then scores with a baseball slide dropkick on Mack on the floor as Avalon rakes at Ryan’s face in a reverse chinlock. Kaos charges and kicks Ryan in the face, yelling at the fans before helping cut off another Ryan comeback with a knee to the gut in the corner. Crowd starts chanting for Ryan as the heels beat him down in the corner and lay in plenty of forearms and chops. Avalon sets Ryan up and throws him to Kaos for the big boot, but Ryan ducks and rolls out of the ring as Mack rolls back inside….chops and right hands from Mack on Kaos and Avalon!! Mack whips Kaos into the corner and catches him on the rebound….T-BONE SUPLEX!! Mack follows it up with a CRADLE CRUSHER ON AVALON!! Mack off the ropes, but Kaos has recovered and he scoops Mack up for a big tilt-a-whirl slam in the middle of the ring….cover…..1……2……….Mack rolls the shoulder and escapes! Ryan charges and takes Kaos down with a spear but Avalon fires right back with a seated reverse STO!! Incredible move from Avalon and all four men are down in the middle of the ring!! Referee’s count is up to six as we head to a commercial break.
Back to the action and Mack and Avalon are in the ring with Mack whiping Avalon across the ring into the corner. Mack charges and misses, hitting the buckle before Avalon charges and gets backdropped over to the apron. Springboard crossbody from the apron onto Mack by Avalon into the cover…..1…….2…….Mack kicks out!! Avalon hits the ropes, but Ryan rolls back into the ring and drops him with a MACHINE GUN SPINEBUSTER!! Cover by Ryan only gets two and he tries to follow up on Avalon, but KAOS ROCKS HIM WITH THE BIG BOOT!! Kaos covers but can only get two so he tries to hit the big boot on Mack but Mack catches it……CHOCOLATE THUNDER BOMB!! 1…………2………………NO!!! Kaos kicks out!! Ryan with an inverted atomic drop on Kaos and he holds him in place so Mack can hit a gamengiri that drops Kaos! Mack with the cover…..1…………2……………..Avalon makes the save in the nick of time!!! Avalon hits a knee to the gut on Ryan and The Standard hits a double-reverse elbow off the ropes before Kaos helps Avalon get some air with a flapjack splash!! 1………..2…………Mack makes the save with a double-stomp to the back!
Avalon charges Mack, but Willie sidesteps him and throws him out to the floor where he slams into Kaos on the outside….TOPE SUICIDA BY RYAN TO THE FLOOR!! Everyone is out on the floor and Mack is firing up the crowd in the middle of the ring….TOPE CON GIRO BY MACK TAKES OUT EVERYBODY!! Crowd chants “This is wrestling” as all four men try to struggle back to their feet with the referee’s count at seven. Ryan hits a big right hand on Avalon and rolls him back into the ring before hitting more right hands in the corner. Ryan and Avalon fight over an Irish whip into the corner with Ryan winning and following it up with a shoulder tackle to the gut of Avalon. Ryan looks for a German suplex, but Avalon blocks it and hits some reverse elbows. Ryan lets go of the hold and bounces off the ropes, but Avalon drops him with a leg lariat and covers…..1…..2………Ryan kicks out as Mack and Kaos are hammering at each other on their knees on the floor!! Ryan hits the superkick and Avalon’s down to his knees…..STEREO SUPERKICK!! Cover……1………..2……………….3!!! Ryan gets his revenge with sweet victory over The Standard!!
Winners: Joey Ryan and Willie Mack (pinfall, Ryan’s stereo superkicks on Avalon) ***3/4
Really fun main event with Mack and Ryan exacting some revenge on The Standard while putting on a great match that really took advantage of the Texas Tornado rules. Even with the loss, Kaos and Avalon looked good here and had plenty of positives in the match and there’s still plenty that can be done with all four of these guys to continue the storyline, especially with Ryan’s impending title shot. Great work from all four guys and an especially impressive showing from Mack with his agility and athleticism.
After the match, Mack lays the badmouth on Avalon a little bit before Kaos drags him out of the ring and carries him to the back on his shoulder like a caveman. In the midst of the celebration, Todd Kenely informs us that the NWA board of directors has announced that due to his big win in this Texas Tornado main event, “Hollywood’s Own” Joey Ryan will recieve a shot at “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in two weeks!! James Morgan is beside himself with disgust as Ryan and Mack celebrate and the fans go crazy as the broadcast fades to black.
Final Thoughts: The show felt a little bit like a placeholder show this week, but I think that that’s only because there’s been so much going on the past few weeks in terms of storylines starting and storylines progressing that it’s inevitable that there would need to be a breather. Very good main event match that was a good throwback to the Texas Tornado matches that used to take place back in the day brought the show a step above average, but again, that’s more of a case of being spoiled with how great the show is week after week rather than anything being actively bad this week.
