411’s PPV Roundtable Preview: TNA Against All Odds 2010

February 13, 2010 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Welcome, wrestling fans, to February’s 411 TNA Roundtable! Hulk Hogan made his TNA Pay-Per-View debut at Genesis last month, where AJ Styles retained the TNA World Title against Kurt Angle when Ric Flair lured him over to the dark side. Ken Anderson made his debut in TNA by defeating Abyss, Matt Morgan and Hernandez captured the World Tag Team Titles from the British Invasion, Tara won the Knockout’s Title in the culmination of her feud with ODB and Amazing Red fended off newcomer Brian Kendrick to retain the TNA X-Division Title. Beer Money defeated the Band, Desmond Wolfe beat D’Angelo Dinero and Sean Morley defeated Daniels in a one-on-one battle!

But that was a month ago, and February brings Against All Odds. This month AJ Styles finds a new (old) challenger as Samoa Joe tries to capture his second TNA World Heavyweight Championship, but he’ll have to go through Styles and his mentor Ric Flair to do so. Team 3D does battle with the Nasty Boys and we have the 8-Card Stud Tournament where D’Angelo Dinero, Desmond Wolfe, Kurt Angle, Mr. Anderson, Hernandez, Matt Morgan, Mick Foley and Abyss will fight through each other in an attempt to earn a shot at the TNA World Title at next month’s Lockdown Pay-Per-View! We have nine matches in all so it’s going to be a very busy show; so let’s introduce our panelists for this month so we can get right to it!

Before we do, though, don’t forget to bookmark 411Mania for all your entertainment needs, or even make it your home page! And don’t forget the Twitters too!

TNA Against All Odds 2010

THE CARD:

TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH
AJ Styles © vs. Samoa Joe

Chad Nevett: There’s no way they’re taking the belt off of AJ with the new Ric Flair angle. That would make no sense. Expect a great match, but for Styles to walk away champ.

Winner and STILL TNA World Heavyweight Champion: AJ “Stylin’ and Profilin'” Styles

Michael Weyer: With the influence of Flair, AJ is just getting started so no way they’ll get the belt off him this soon. But these two are always up for a classic match and this should be no different.

Winner and STILL TNA World Champion: The Stylin and Profilin Phenomenal One

Shawn S. Lealos: TNA is big on swerves and I see them pulling one here. I think Eric Bischoff screws Samoa Joe and sides with Ric Flair and Styles after the match. Can you imagine a smiling Bischoff hugging Ric Flair after the match?

Winner: A.J. Styles

Jeremy Thomas: Daniels got his solo shot after the triple threat at Turning Point, and now it’s Samoa Joe’s turn. Joe and AJ have always had a great chemistry in the ring and this will almost certainly be the match of the night, especially if they really let the two cut loose. By the same token, screwy booking and unnecessary swerves could kill it. Whatever the path they take to get there, there’s really only one possible result. Making AJ drop the title right now would kill his new heel turn, and he needs to keep going with strong wins throughout the next several months to really solidify him the way Hogan keeps saying he wants to. AJ wins here, probably in an unfortunately-overbooked finale.

Winner: AJ Styles

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: AJ Styles (4-0)

The Nasty Boys vs. Team 3D

Chad Nevett: I absolutely hate the Nasty Boys being in the ring, so I hope this is a brutal match that is so one-sided that it eliminates any possible credibility that two over-the-hill, out of shape, ‘weren’t even that good when they were good’ wrestlers still have somehow.

Winner: Team 3D

Michael Weyer: Ah, yes another example of TNA giving us a dream match fifteen years too late. The Nastys are not at all good in the ring anymore so here’s hoping they blow this off and let it rest.

Winner: The Nasty Boys

Shawn S. Lealos: The feud has been set up nicely, which sucks since it’s The Nasty Boys in the match. I’d rather see any other tag team in this match. I also find it amusing that Hogan is pimping the Nasty’s training school, since Team 3D has one as well. With Hernandez and Morgan saving Team 3D a couple of weeks ago I am scared they are setting this up for the Nasty’s to get a title match. That sucks.

Winner: The Nasty Boys

Jeremy Thomas: I can’t help but think that this isn’t over yet for some reason. Where do the two teams go from here, really? Sure, 3D could move onto one of the heel teams and the Nasty Boys could battle either Beer Money or (shudder) the champions, but I just don’t see that happening. Knobbs and Sags need to look strong here and I think they pick up a cheap win here in order to do so.

Winner: The Nasty Boys

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: The Nasty Boys (3-1)

8-CARD STUD TOURNAMENT MATCHES
“The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. Desmond Wolfe

Chad Nevett: Probably the toughest of the first round matches to predict since Hogan and Bischoff are high on both of these guys. Wolfe won at Genesis when these two faced off, but the Pope picked up a big win over AJ Styles a week ago. I’m torn between who I think would perform better in a tournament setting as far as quality matches and who I think they would want to possibly face Styles. I think the Pope gets his win back from Wolfe.

Winner: The Pope

Michael Weyer: Tough call as both guys are going high but keep feeling Wolfe is being set against AJ so he wins here.

Winner: Desmond Wolfe

Shawn S. Lealos: Hogan is really high on The Pope and his win over A.J. Styles is proof they have something big in store for him. This is a rematch from Genesis and I think Dinero gets his win back here.

Winner: The Pope

Jeremy Thomas: This is, of course, a rematch from Genesis where Wolfe defeated Dinero. I think that they’re going to put the Pope over this time around since the brass seems insanely high on him; it’s also a way to do what Vince did with WCW’s guys and make a star out of someone who never got a chance in the WWE. Either way this should be a very good match, the best of the first-rounders. The Pope will take down Wolfe though in order to advance to Round Two.

Winner: D’Angelo Dinero

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: D’Angelo Dinero (3-1)

Hernandez vs. Matt Morgan

Chad Nevett: Another difficult match-up to figure out since these are another two guys that Hogan and Bischoff seem to like. I can Morgan going over because he fits their idea of what a wrestler should be a bit more.

Winner: Matt Morgan

Michael Weyer: Hernandez vs. Wolfe would make an intriguing semi battle so that’s who I pick here.

Winner: Hernandez

Shawn S. Lealos: The tag team champs battle. I think Matt Morgan is someone that Hulk Hogan is going to want to push to the moon. I really hope they don’t start a splintering of the team though. That is the first step to screwing up the tag team division.

Winner: Matt Morgan

Jeremy Thomas: Tag team partners do battle! Wow, that’s something we’ve never seen before…I kid, I kid folks. Put the pitchforks down. Hernandez and Morgan should make for a good, solid power fest and I think that when it’s all said and done, it’s another opportunity to put over someone the WWE refused to give a chance to. Morgan advances here and there will be tension, but it will all work out fine for the champs.

Winner: Matt Morgan

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Matt Morgan (3-1)

Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson

Chad Nevett: They may like Mr. Anderson, but him going over Kurt Angle seems unlikely.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Michael Weyer: TNA has to be remembering some stuff from WWE on how Anderson/Kennedy has his injury tendency so it’ll be a good match but Angle will get the win in the end.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Shawn S. Lealos: Scott Hall is going to interfere in a match on this card and I think it is this first one, knocking Angle out early, There are only two bad guys in this tournament and I already eliminated Wolfe, so they need a bad guy to move on in the tournament.

Winner: Mr. Anderson

Jeremy Thomas: This is a wild card of a match, as Anderson could be hot or cold here while Angle will surely bring his A-Game and do his best to make this a fantastic bout. In this case, I think that they put the more established star over so that Angle can help get someone over in the later part of the tournament.

Winner: Kurt Angle

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Kurt Angle (3-1)

Mick Foley vs. Abyss

Chad Nevett: Both men have to give it their all or Abyss must unmask. What would I rather see: Foley/Angle or Abyss/Angle?

Winner: Abyss

Michael Weyer: Tempting to go with Foley but the Abyss push as of late has given me thoughts he’ll be rising up again and this would be the right way to go about it.

Winner: Abyss

Shawn S. Lealos: Welcome to swerve number two. I predict Abyss turns bad here and kills Foley for putting his job in danger. He has been talking about towing the line and this is where he aligns with Easy E.

Winner: Abyss

Jeremy Thomas: Ahh yes, we haven’t seen Foley and Abyss battle at all lately, have we? The good news is that they can play their roles very well and put forth a solid brawl. I still have a soft spot for both of them and am willing to overlook certain flaws in their skills these days. Hogan says Abyss is his John Cena, and Cena would kill Foley, so that’s what happens here.

Winner: Abyss

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: Abyss (4-0)

D’Angelo Dinero OR Desmond Wolfe vs. Hernandez OR Matt Morgan

Chad Nevett: (Dinero vs. Morgan) With the Pope versus Morgan, I can see Morgan taking the loss because he’s part of the tag champs and they want to push Dinero against AJ.

Winner: The Pope

Michael Weyer: (Wolfe vs. Hernandez) A wild battle here between two fighters who’l put on a great show. Wolfe will get it in the end though but it should be good.

Winner: Wolfe

Shawn S. Lealos: (Dinero vs. Morgan) I think The Pope is the man they are setting up to get a title shot, especially after he already beat Styles. Pope somehow pulls this out.

Winner: The Pope

Jeremy Thomas: (Dinero vs. Morgan) I think this match has a lot of potential, but I think that their styles could clash as well. This will probably be a fairly short match because nine matches in three hours is a bit much and they’ll want to give plenty of time to the finale and the main event, plus let the semifinal winners rest just a bit for the final. Dinero will put Morgan away here and move onto the main event.

Winner: D’Angelo Dinero

Kurt Angle OR Mr. Anderson vs. Mick Foley OR Abyss

Chad Nevett: (Angle vs. Abyss) For this match, you need the tension, to tease that idea that Angle may get his shot against AJ, so Angle has to go to the finals.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Michael Weyer: (Kurt Angle vs. Abyss) Great battle here between these two hard-hitters with technical from Kurt against Abyss’ brawling. Angle will get it though to set up the final.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Shawn S. Lealos: (Anderson vs. Abyss) This is another rematch from Genesis and I think Anderson steals another win, maybe with Foley coming down and seeking revenge on Abyss for the previous match.

Winner: Mr. Anderson

Jeremy Thomas: (Angle vs. Abyss) This one is all Angle. Props to Abyss, but I think that Angle can serve this tournament best by advancing to the finals; plus there’s a stronger story in Angle fighting his way through the tournament to get another shot at the World Title. I think that Abyss will get some solid offense shenanigans happen that somehow cost Abyss the win, allowing the Olympic Hero to move on.

Winner: Kurt Angle

Tournament Final

Chad Nevett: (Dinero vs. Angle) The Pope versus Kurt Angle. With his win over AJ, the Pope has shown that he can hang with the main event guys and a win over Angle would solidify that. We’ve seen Styles/Angle already, so introducing a fresh face with a seeming advantage like a win over the champ already would make a lot of sense.

Winner: The Pope

Michael Weyer: (Wolfe vs. Angle) So we get the big rematch which should be a fantastic battle between them. They seem to be setting up Wolfe vs. AJ so Wolfe gets the win to pave the way for what’s sure to be a great main event down the road.

Winner: Desmond Wolfe

Shawn S. Lealos: (Dinero vs. Anderson) The Pope was on life support when he lost to Wolfe at Genesis and Orlando Jordan the next Thursday. Then he pulled off an upset of A.J. Styles and his confidence shot to the moon. He got his win back from Jordan and I predict he gets his win back from Wolfe. Then he beats one half of the tag team champions. That sets him up to fight the undefeated Mr. Anderson, and who better to give Anderson his first loss then the man who is going to main event Lockdown?

Winner: The Pope

Jeremy Thomas: (Dinero vs. Angle) And here’s where Angle’s run ends. The Pope clearly has a rocket strapped to his ass and he’s riding that all the way to Lockdown. I think that Flair will probably get involved here so that Angle doesn’t have a shot at AJ, which will allow Dinero to get the pinfall without realizing that Ric-eference occurred. Either way this match has a hell of a lot of potential and I can see this one as a potential show-stealer.

Winner: D’Angelo Dinero

411Mania Roundtable Consensus: D’Angelo Dinero (3-1)
