Alisha Edwards On Her Concussion At TNA Emergence, Hopes To Be Cleared For Bound For Glory
Alisha Edwards suffered a concussion at TNA Emergence, and she recently spoke about how she’s doing and more. Edwards went down with the injury during her with Masha Slamovich and Ash By Elegance against Jordynne Grace & Spitfire, and she appeared on Reffin’ It Up where she talked about the incident and more. You can check out highlights below, per Fightful:
On how the concussion happened: “I mean, literally it was the opening spot, and it was a dive, a house show dive, and I was on the outside to catch. Jody’s elbow came down and hit me straight in the temple. Jody Threat, her elbow hit me in the temple, and I was knocked out, completely unconscious. It was wild. Then there was more people in the match, so they continued the match. Then that kind of all happened,” she said. “So I was knocked out for at least probably, this is all obviously who attended to me right after because obviously I was knocked out, so I wouldn’t really know, and I’ve seen the footage and stuff. I was knocked out, and then it was so much movement that happened that I don’t think they knew. It was the house show dive, I got knocked out, then there was supposed to be another dive, which the two girls got up for that one, still didn’t notice I was knocked out. Then there was the other dive. There was three back-to-back dives, so I got knocked out the first one. There was so much stuff happening, no one really noticed until they went to get me to do the next thing almost at that point, and I wasn’t responsive at that point either. Then the doctor came, and then I came to it, and we went to the back.”
On it being her first concussion: “It is my first real injury. I’ve never had a concussion before. I’ve been pretty fortunate and lucky. It was a pretty bad one. It’s the first time I took time off. I haven’t wrestled since then, so it’s been eight weeks. It’s the first time I kind of needed to take a break and just step back a little bit and let my body kind of rest. It was kind of a little eye-opener I guess.”
On how she felt the next day: “It was Emergence and then we had the next day of TV tapings. The next day, I continued in work mode and I really didn’t want to process it. Days after is when I realized how serious it was. A lot of people, not even from just TNA but a lot of friends from other companies, reached out to me or Eddie (Edwards) and were concerned. I really think it scared a lot of people. That’s when I realized it’s not just me being knocked loopy for a few seconds, it’s serious. That’s when I needed to step back and go, ‘Lish, you might feel good but maybe it’s time for you to relax.’ I had to shut work down for a few week. I got a CAT scan and was doing the right things and right protocol. It’s been a project in itself. I’m just glad everything worked out and nothing serious happened.”
On how TNA handled the situation: “Yes, I think TNA has been supportive in the whole situation and we’re trying to figure out what protocol works for stuff like this so it doesn’t happen or it’s better the next time it happens.”
On how she’s feeling now: “I feel good. I’m ready to go. I’m hoping I can get cleared for this weekend.”
