On the latest episode of The ARN Show, Arn Anderson talked about the “Glock” promo in AEW with Cody Rhodes. You can check out some highlights below:
On the story behind the “Glock” promo in AEW: “The other point in time where my wife I think was really ready to divorce me. ‘You can’t say that? For God’s sakes, did they fire you? You fired?’ I didn’t know — they said, ‘What are you going to say?’ And I said, ‘Just tell you, like I’ve always told people. If you’ll just tell me what bullet points that you want me to hit, I’ll come up with something, but I can’t tell you right now, it’s two hours before the show time.’ ‘Okay, well just — you know, go ahead and do what you think.’”
On how he could make an impact: “I was trying to think of what will have impact, and what starts out as like a normal promo. And do something earth-shattering at a point that nobody’s expecting it, to where he goes. ‘Wait a minute, did he say that? Did he really say that?’ And it was actually — that’s the way I would handle something if it came up. If some cat jerked my car door open at a red light and said, ‘Get out of the car. I’m taking your car.’ If you’ve ever thrown a huge firm tomato up against a wall and watch it splatter? That would be the end result. I ain’t giving my vehicle up. I ain’t being a victim. Ain’t getting steamrolled by some pissant that’s too afraid to get up and go to work every day.
“So that’s what went through my mind, and that’s what came out. And [I] can’t believe the internet blew up on that. And it was 99% favorable. That’s — well, it just tells you how people feel about the world today. They’re tired of getting steamrolled, they’re tired of getting picked on. They’re tired of getting robbed. They’re tired of getting their s**t taken away from them.”
On the inspiration for it: “I just took it from the mold of a promo I did years ago. One time I said, ‘If a guy’s breaking in your window of your home and you’ve got your family right there, you don’t pick up a water hose and squirt him. You take a baseball bat and bash his brains out with it.’ And it was that kind of general outline on how to approach promos to where, ‘Yeah, yes. Figure me in. I feel that way too,’ you know? By a lot of people that heard that promo.”
