Athena Passes Roman Reigns To Become Longest-Reigning Modern US World Champion

Athena is called the “Forever Champion” in ROH, and the Women’s World Champion has now surpassed Roman Reigns’ modern-day record as a World Champion. As initially pointed out by Fightful, Athena’s title reign reached 1,317 days as of today, July 19th. That puts her one day ahead of Roman Reigns, who held the WWE Universal Championship for 1,316 days from August of 2020 to April 7th, 2024 when he lost it to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.

Athena’s reign as champion began at ROH Final Battle 2022, when she defeated Mercedes Martinez to claim the title. Since then, she has defended it 37 times, most recently against Syuri at ROH Global Wars Cincinnati on June 10th.

Athena looks to have another challenger in her near future, as Maya World has said that she is “pining” for the ROH Women’s World Champion. World is a former trainee of Athena and defeated her during the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
