Atsushi Onita suffered a cervical spine injury in during a match this week and will be out of action for a short time. BBM Mobile reports that Onita competed in a match at the Hiroshima Pro Wrestling Festival on January 18th in the main event, which was a six-man tag team Scramble Bunkhouse Deathmatch.
Onita suffered the injury during the match and went to the hospital on Tuesday. The report noted that he will need two weeks in order to recovery.
Onita posted to Twitter on Sunday to comment on the match, writing (translation per Twitter):
“#Sorry for making you worry
Oh no, oh no
When I tried riding it, the desk was super slippery
I ended up slipping and losing my footing
Got a block injection in Hiroshima
They gave me something to stop the pain as emergency treatment
Once I’m back, I’ll have my regular doctor do a thorough examination”
The 68 year-old Onita teamed with Kazutaka Hasegawa & Raijin Yaguchi to defeat Mr. Pogo, Onryo & Tsuyoshi Okada at the show. He competed in another match at the show as well, teaming with Van Vert Negro to defeat Naoshi Sano, Nene Dai & Takahiro Hirakimoto in a handicap match.
On behalf of 411, our best wishes to Onita for a quick and full recovery.
