Backstage Details On John Cena’s WWE Deal

A new report has a bit of information on John Cena’s current WWE deal following his in-ring retirement in December of last year. Cena had his last match at Saturday Night’s Main Event and has been consistent in maintaining that he is done in the ring. He noted in an interview in June that “It would be financial suicide for someone to court me in a position where I would have another match, and I truly mean that. So if you’re in the business of torching currency, that’s the only way to get me back in the ring.”
It would seem that some people thought that might mean Cena could potentially be available (even if extremely unlikely) to wrestle elsewhere, but that is not the case. As previously noted, Cena signed a new deal in the lead up to his in-ring retirement to serve as an ambassador for the company. This will be obvious to most, but just to be clear about it Fightful Select says that per sources, the contract precludes his ability to wrestle anywhere else.
The report adds that the John Cena Classic is still currently planned for later this year and has a December target, though that is not set in stone yet.
