Backstage Note on CM Punk Beating Drew McIntyre at WWE Bash in Berlin
– last night on WWE Raw, CM Punk was ready to move on from his feud with Drew McIntyre and put out a challenge to Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title. However, Punk was then interrupted by Drew McIntyre, who laid a serious beating on Punk, ripping apart Punk’s treasured bracelet, and then stuffing it down Punk’s throat. During today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared some details on WWE continuing the CM Punk and Drew McIntyre feud after Punk picked up such a decisive win over McIntyre at Bash in Berlin.
According to Meltzer, WWE’s mentality was that Punk had yet to pick up a major win on TV since his WWE return late last year. WWE officials reportedly felt Punk needed a “massive win” since Punk is viewed as a “massive star,” hence why he got such a strong victory over McIntyre in their rematch. Additionally, officials believed McIntyre would be able to handle the loss and then subsequently regain his heat by assaulting Punk two nights later on Raw.
So, the Punk vs. McIntyre feud appears to be continuing for now. Meanwhile, Sami Zayn is now seeking a shot at Gunther for the title, so any potential match between Punk and Gunther won’t happen for a while.
