BG Says: PWG All Star Weekend 2 – Electric Boogaloo, Night One

November 18, 2005 – Los Angeles, California
Disco Machine and Excalibur tackle commentary, and as usual be sure to switch the audio channel over to hear them.

VS.

Excalibur & Disco Machine VS. Rocky Romero & TJ Perkins
Romero and Excalibur start. Excalibur teases Romero for picking Japanese dates over PWG dates and other Japanese related issues until Romero kicks at his thigh. They lock up and Excalibur puts on a headlock. Disco and Perkins tag in and Disco forces Perkins to the corner. He hits an armdrag but Perkins drop toeholds him onto the bottom rope. Excalibur chases Perkins around and they both walk over Disco, neck still draped over the rope. Perkins puts Disco in the camel clutch until Excalibur breaks it up. The New S.B.S. regroups on the outside to talk about how silly they looked during that Benny Hill segment. Back in the ring Excalibur and Romero are legal. Romero tries to bait Excalibur into the Lady of the Lake and succeeds but doesn’t do much with it. He goes to kick out Excalibur’s knees but it looked like a low blow to me. Perkins tags in and hits a bodyslam. He hits a kneedrop off the second rope for 2. He hits a fisherman suplex for 2. He stomps on Excalibur’s face and stretches his arms. Excalibur gets a roll up for 2. Disco tags in and hits an elbowdrop. He hits a bodyslam and a double jump senton for 2. He puts on a camel clutch and tags to Excalibur. Excalibur hits a double kneedrop for 2. Disco tags in and hits a snap suplex for 2. He puts on a chinlock and hits an elbowdrop for 2. Excalibur tags in and hits a high angle German suplex for 2. Disco dropkicks Romero to the floor just before Perkins hits a brainbuster on Excalibur. Romero comes back in and knocks Disco into the crowd and hits a flying knee on Excalibur. Excalibur blocks a blind charge but Romero comes back with a grapevined anklelock. Disco makes the save. Disco hits a powerslam on Romero so Romero tags out. Perkins somehow sends Disco to the floor (or rather Disco falls to the floor for no reason) and puts Excalibur in a half crab. Excalibur taps out but the referee is distracted. Perkins, who could see that the referee was distracted, lets go and celebrates like an idiot. He figures out what’s going on and hits a bodyslam. He climbs the ropes and hits a frog splash but the referee had already counted Perkins out on the top rope at 15:11. That’s right, for the first time ever a wrestler was actually counted out for being on the top rope for too long. This match sucked, straight up. Aside from the one comedy spot this was boring, sloppy and ended with a finish that’s never used in this company. We will likely see someone sitting on the top rope for much longer than Perkins did later in the night. I’m complaining a lot for such a meaningless match, but I’m actually kind of upset that I sat through it at all.

VS.
Petey Williams VS. Chris Sabin
Williams cuts a promo burying Canada before the match. Now some of you might think that the newly turned heel burying Canada would turn him babyface again, but it’s actually the perfect move for him because he announces that because he now hates Canada he’ll never use the Sharpshooter or the Canadian Destroyer again. They lock up and trade wristlocks to start. Sabin gets a head scissors takedown and a roll up for 1. They knuckle up and start wrestling perfectly symmetrically. Williams goes to the eyes but Sabin comes back with a thrust kick and another head scissors takedown. He sets Williams in the Tree of Woe but Williams escapes it and rolls to the apron before Sabin can do anything with it. Sabin hits a dropkick on the apron and another one on the floor. Sabin holds Williams and asks a child in the crowd to chop him. The little boy is a little weak so he drags Williams to another side of the ring and has a stronger kid do it. The crowd wants to see it again so Sabin lets some tall, skinny dude to it. Back in the ring Sabin hits a missile dropkick for 2. Williams bails again but the tall guy (dubbed Tally McTallerson by Excalibur on commentary) scares him. Sabin goes to the floor where Williams hits him with a hurricanrana. Back in the ring Williams hits a vertical suplex and a northern lights suplex for 2. He hits a backbreaker for 2. He puts on a stranglehold but Sabin fights out. Williams hits a variety of neckbreakers for 2. He dropkicks the back for 2. He puts on a waistlock and sets Sabin in the Tree of Woe. He stands on Sabin’s crotch so Sabin sits up and hits a snap German suplex. He hits a snap back suplex and an enziguiri. He hits a running sit-out powerbomb for 2. He sets Williams up top but Williams fights him off and comes down with a hurricanrana. He hits a swinging DDT for 2. He climbs the ropes but Sabin traps him in the Tree of Woe and hits a baseball slide. He pulls Williams out of the Tree of Woe and hits the Over Easy DDT for 2. Williams hits the side Russian legsweep and sets up for the Canadian Destroyer. He hits a stunner instead and follows with a spinning neckbreaker for 2. Sabin goes for the Cradle Shock but Williams counters to a roll up with his feet on the ropes for 2. Sabin goes for a crucifix pin but Williams uses the ropes to block it and get leverage on his own pin for the win at 15:28. This was full of all kinds of fun and innovative sequences like the fan chopping, the symmetrical wrestling and the moves out of the Tree of Woe.

VS.
Frankie Kazarian VS. Christopher Daniels
They play charades before locking up. Daniels powers Kazarian to the corner and they trade armdrags. They exchange holds and Daniels hits a hiptoss. He hits an armdrag, a bodyslam and an elbowdrop for 2. He puts on an armbar and holds on through an armdrag. Kazarian regains control and puts on a headlock. Daniels responds by hitting a powerslam to the floor but falls out himself. Kazarian pretends to hit the post with his head so Daniels gets back into the ring for the count out victory. Kazarian sneaks in the ring and rolls him up for 2. He hits a bicycle kick for 2. He hits a swinging neckbreaker for 2. He misses the momentum kick and Daniels hits a knee to the chest for 2. Kazarian hits an enziguiri and a slingshot DDT for 2. Daniels hits the uranage but Kazarian keeps him from going for the moonsault. He sets Daniels up top but Daniels fights him off. Daniels goes for a crossbody but Kazarian rolls through for the win at 12:45. This was just boring, run of the mill stuff.

Excalibur announces that though Hook Bomberry and Topgun Talwar were supposed to challenge for the tag titles, they were suspended for failing their drug tests. He promises to win the tag titles tomorrow night with Disco Machine, but for tonight he’s sending New S.B.S. probationary member Ronin and Super Dragon’s former tag team partner B-Boy to soften the champs up in a non-title match.

VS.

Super Dragon & Davey Richards VS. B-Boy & Ronin
Dragon attacks Ronin before the bell. Richards hits a running forearm and Ronin and a suicide dive on B-Boy. The champs beat up Ronin on the floor and Dragon hits him with a chair. He hits a vertical suplex on the floor and throws bottled water at him. He wildly throws a chair at Ronin’s head and rolls him back into the ring. He kicks Ronin around and tags to Richards. Richards opens up with kicks and a dropkick for 2. Dragon tags in and puts on the Mark Nulty Special. Richards tags in but B-Boy hits a cheap shot and Ronin hits a backbreaker. B-Boy tags in and hits a snap suplex for 2. He kicks Richards’s back but that only fires him up. Richards kicks B-Boy’s back but that just fires him up. That cycles on for a while until B-Boy hits an enziguiri for 2. Ronin tags in and stretches Richards against the ropes. He puts on the stretch plum but Richards gets to the ropes. Richards hits the handspring kick and tags to Dragon. Dragon double stomps Ronin from the top rope off of Richards’s knees for 2. Dragon chops Ronin’s face and hits a low blow. Ronin no-sells it but doesn’t no-sell a back suplex. Dragon puts on the leggy nelson and holds on through a dropkick from B-Boy. Ronin gets to the ropes. Richards tags in and hits a snap suplex. Dragon tags in and ducks a forearm before hitting the Curb Stomp. Ronin comes back with strikes and hits a hanging DDT. Dragon goes for a spear but misses and hits the post. Ronin hits the elevated forearm on Richards and tags to B-Boy. B-Boy hits a spinning heel kick and an exploder on Richards. He hits a dropkick to the face in the corner for 2. Dragon comes in and gets his knee kicked out. He blocks the Shining Wizard and puts on the STF. Richards keeps Ronin from breaking it up by putting him in the crossface. B-Boy and Ronin hit stereo DVDs on their opponents. B-Boy hits a reverse DDT on Dragon the apron and Ronin dumps Richards to the floor. Richards comes back with kicks and a German suplex for 2. B-Boy hits Richards with a swinging neckbreaker but Dragon catches him with a reverse suplex. He puts on a dragon sleeper but Ronin breaks it up. Ronin hits a neckbreaker on Dragon and B-Boy wipes Dragon out with a palm strike. Everyone clotheslines everyone and everyone goes down. Richards accidentally falls to the floor and Dragon hits B-Boy with a Germans suplex for 2. He climbs the ropes and hits a double stomp to the back of the head. He dives onto Ronin on the floor and Richards hits B-Boy with a suplex into the Emerald Frosion for 2. B-Boy dodges the Psycho Driver and hits the Shining Wizard for 2. Richards climbs the ropes and after Dragon Psycho Drivers B-Boy onto Ronin he hits Ronin with a shooting star press for the win at 24:05. The camera work during this match sucked and a couple of big spots were missed. The match itself was a lot of head drops and missed spots mixed in with Ronin actually trying to have a good match.

VS.
Jack Evans VS. El Generico
Evans and Generico BREAK to start the match, keeping with the theme of the weekend. They lock up and Generico powers Evans to the corner. Evans puts on a wristlock and then goes for a cross armbreaker. He grabs a headlock but Generico counters to a wristlock. He hits a backbreaker for 2. He hits a leg lariat for 2. He hits a slingshot senton for 2. Evans comes back with a blockbuster neckbreaker. He hits a dropkick to the back for 2. He hits a back elbow for 2. He hits a handspring elbow but Generico dodges a springboard knee and chops Evans down. Evans blocks the Yakuza kick but Generico forearms him from the top rope to the floor. Evans stands up so Generico hits him with a double springboard moonsault press. Evans dropkicks Generico off the apron and then hits the Space Flying Tiger Rana. That gets 2 back in the ring. He hits another handspring elbow and a springboard leg lariat. He hits a standing phoenix splash for 2. He climbs the ropes but Generico knocks him down. Evans comes back with an electric chair drop for 2. Generico blocks a blind charge and hits the Yakuza kick. He hits it again and follows up with the nastiest Michinoku driver ever for 2. He hits Evans with his own shoe but Evans comes back with a head scissors takedown into the turnbuckle. He hits the cradle brainbuster for 2. He sets Evans up top but Evans fights back and brings him down with a reverse hurricanrana off the second rope for 2. He climbs to the second rope and seamlessly backflips into a DDT for 2. That was gorgeous and Evans follows it up with the 630 senton for the win at 18:12. They really busted out some crazy stuff down the stretch in this one, even if it didn’t all gel perfectly.

VS.
Jimmy Yang VS. American Dragon
Originally Yang was scheduled to face AJ Styles and Dragon was scheduled to face Jonnny Storm but neither Styles nor Storm are here so we have this match. They lock up and Dragon forces Yang to the corner. Yang hits an armdrag and kips up. Dragon hits an armdrag and they knuckle up. Yang turns the lock into a stranglehold but Dragon counters and puts it on Yang. Yang whips out of it but runs into a dropkick and bails. Back in the ring Yang puts on a headlock as Disco Machine and Excalibur note on commentary that it’s not possible for Dragon to do anything wrong, that even a mistake he’d make would be copied by everyone because he knows so well what he’s doing in the ring. To counter that opinion Yang hits an enziguiri and Dragon bails. He threatens to walk out on the match but chooses to continue. Yang hits the tiger flip and a superkick for 2. He hits a vertical suplex for 2. He puts on a hammerlock but Dragon gets to the corner. Dragon hits a European uppercut and dodges a spear forcing Yang to hit the post. He goes for Yang Time but Dragon crotches him and hits the back superplex. They trade forearms in an exchange that Dragon wins with one of the roaring variety for 2. He puts on the Cow Killer and rolls him up for 2. He gets 30 revolutions on the airplane spin and then dropkicks the turnbuckle out of dizziness. He climbs the ropes but misses a diving headbutt. Yang hits Yang Time to a standing American Dragon for 2. I guess it’s more powerful when the opponent is lying down. Danielson grabs the crossface chicken wing but Yang gets to the ropes. Danielson sets him up top but Yang counters the back superplex to a crossbody. Danielson rolls through it for 2 despite the fact that Yang never got his shoulder up. The crowd gets all over them for the gaff. Yang hits a backbreaker and Yang Time for the win at 20:47. This was pretty solid, but their ROH match a few months later was much better. The awful finish didn’t help matters here.

He hits a spinebuster on Lost and trades strikes with Ryan. He goes for the F-5 but has to settle for a spear. He goes for the Jackhammer but Ryan blocks it. Ryan hurts his back going for a piledriver and Dino hits a powerbomb. Lost hits the Ode to Bruce Lee and Bosh hits a stunner on Dino for 2. Sky and Quicksilver send Bosh and Lost to the floor and follow them out with stereo dives. Dino knocks Ryan to the floor and climbs the ropes before, and I’m not kidding here, diving onto Arrogance. Lost plays dead and Bosh throws Sky a chair, trying to trick the referee into disqualifying him. While the referee tries to figure things out Sky hits Lost with the chair and hits Ryan with a reverse hurricanrana. Quicksilver hits a spinebuster on Bosh. Sky sets Ryan up top and Dino hits him with the Duff Drop for the win at 21:25. The first half of the match was very boring with a ton of wrestling and no fun from Dino. I don’t actually think having Dino in the match the whole time would have been a good idea, but what would have been a good idea is more interaction between Sky and Lost as well as Ryan and Dino. The last five minutes were quite entertaining, however. After the match Sky beats Lost up with a chair.

Kevin Steen © VS. Samoa Joe [PWG Championship Match]
They knuckle up to start and Joe takes Steen to the mat. He works over Steen’s arm but Steen comes back with a headlock. Joe goes for the Muscle Buster but Steen blocks it. Steen goes for the package piledriver but Joe counters to a DVD. His knee is too hurt to go for a cover. Steen goes to the eyes and hits a low blow to block the choke. He goes for the package piledriver but when he can’t hit that he counters a Samoan drop to a crucifix pin for the win at 17:35. As a match it was only as good as Super Dragon’s lesser matches against Joe, but he did pin him clean, which Dragon never has.

The 411: ![]() On the plus side the Border City Blowout and the main event were quite good and Dino Winwood made the most of his first real match in PWG. On the bottom minus side this was pretty weak for an “All Star” show. Nothing was bad outside of the opener, but nothing was really worth going out of your way for either. |
