Bruce Prichard Says Undertaker Offered to Put JBL Over Clean at SummerSlam 2004, Why They Didn’t Do It

– On the latest Something to Wrestle, Bruce Prichard looked back at SummerSlam 2004 and said that Undertaker offered to put JBL over cleanly, and why they didn’t go with that. Prichard’s co-host Conrad Thompson asked about JBL’s previously saying that Undertaker offered to lose cleanly to him, but that he declined the offer. Prichard said that Taker was trying to get JBL over so that they could have a strong heel for the company.
“Well, he did,” Prichard said. “And Taker wanted — again it was, contrary to a lot of popular belief, there were guys that wanted to get Layfield over. We needed to get a strong heel over, we needed to build new stars. And that’s what Taker was looking to do. Taker was looking to build JBL, and get that character over which is good. A clean win over the Undertaker would have done that.”
He continued on, explaining why they didn’t go with the clean win by saying, “And we went with the heat finish just to again, feeling that it would put more heat on the character with the disqualification. Hindsight, I think I would have still gone with the DQ.”
