Chavo Guerrero is not a fan of tribalism in the wrestling fandom, saying that it’s something he doesn’t understand. Tribalism has always been a part of wrestling in some form or another, but it has spiked significantly in the six years since AEW launched. Everyone from MJF and Matt Hardy to MVP have spoken out about the topic, decrying the toxic aspects of the “them vs. us” mentality.

Guerrero touched on the topic in an appearance on Gabby AF. He said it’s something he’s never understood and always disliked. You can see the highlights below:

On Wrestling Tribalism:

“I don’t understand why people do that. I get it that you have people like WWE more or AWW more, whatever. But wrestling’s wrestling. And that’s — I don’t like when the fans criticize somebody else just because they don’t like the brand. If it’s a damn good match, I don’t care if it was on TNA, in New Japan, in AAA. I don’t care if it’s on an indie show. If it’s a good match, it’s a damn good match.”

On People Who Don’t Like Wrestlers Because of Where They Work:

“There’s people like John Cena, who was only a WWE guy. And then people who like other organizations, you know, they don’t like John Cena. I’m like, ‘Why? Because he never wrestled in in AEW or TNA, whatever?’ If he if he puts on a good match, puts on a good match.

“There’s a there’s a reason why people really love Rey Mysterio, because he’s kind of wrestled everywhere. He’s gone other places, he came from different places. So he’s got his fandom, you know, people love him just for his matches, but for him wrestling other places. But you know, guys like MJF; MJF is really an AEW guy. So don’t hate on him when you’re a WWE person. Like, he’s pretty damn good.”
