CM Punk’s Lawyer Touches On AEW Exit, Tony Khan Saying He Feared For His Life
CM Punk’s lawyer, Stephen P. New, has commented on the straight-edge star leaving AEW. AEW and Tony Khan announced on September 2nd that they terminated, with cause, the All Elite Wrestling contract of CM Punk. Punk’s firing came from a reported backstage skirmish at AEW All In with Jack Perry. Also, Tony Khan said he feared for his life as this incident took place and felt the former AEW champion was putting others in danger.
Appearing on Rumor & Innuendo with Nick Hausman & Robert Karpeles, Stephen P. New, representing CM Punk, was questioned on several subjects. You can see some highlights below, per Haus of Wrestling:
Stephen P. New on if Punk had a non-compete clause: “I can’t really speak to that with respect to Punk. What I can say is that the contracts vary for whether or not non-competes remain in place, the types of terminations, and that sort of thing. In terms of him specifically, there is no way I can get into that,”
On AEW’s statement about Punk’s firing: “Yeah, it was clear why.”
On Khan saying he “feared for life” and if he overstepped: “He’s welcome to comment on however he felt about whatever.”
