ECW Founder Tod Gordon Reportedly Hospitalized, Family Deletes Statement From Social Media

POST Wrestling reports that ECW founder Tod Gordon was hospitalized recently. His family posted a statement announcing the news on Gordon’s Instagram account. However, per POST Wrestling, that statement was later deleted, but not before multiple outlets picked up and reported the statement.
The statement reportedly came from Gordon’s family, citing that the ECW founder had been hospitalized “for some time.” It read as follows:
“From the Family of Tod Gordon: We wanted to share that, Tod Gordon, is currently in the hospital and has been for some time. If you’ve reached out and haven’t heard back, please know he’s not ignoring anyone — he’s just focusing on his health right now. While he is unable to receive visitors, we appreciate all your love, support, and prayers during this time. Please keep him in your thoughts. Thank you.”
No other details have been released regarding Gordon’s condition. And as noted earlier, the aforementioned statement was later removed from Gordon’s social media. Gordon founded Eastern Championship Wrestling, later Extreme Championship Wrestling, in 1992. He later hired WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman to be the promotion’s booker in 1993, also joining the National Wrestling Alliance.
Gordon and Heyman later orchestrated ECW’s split from the NWA in August 1994, when Shane Douglas infamously threw down the NWA World Championship. The promotion was then re-dubbed Extreme Championship Wrestling, and the legend of ECW was born.
ECW founder Tod Gordon ultimately sold his share of the company to Heyman in 1995. The wrestling promoter was later inducted into the 2300 Arena Hardcore Hall of Fame in 2009. In 2023, Gordon released a book, co-written by Sean Oliver, titled Tod is God: The Authorized Story of How I Created Extreme Championship Wrestling, on how he co-created ECW with Paul Heyman.
It’s unknown why the earlier statement was deleted from Gordon’s Instagram account. Details on his condition are still pending.
