El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. Appears On WWE Smackdown, Challenges For US Title

WWE Smackdown had an appearance by El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., with the AAA star answering Carmelo Hayes’ US Championship open challenge. Friday night’s show saw Hayes come out to compete in his latest open challenge defense of the title. He was answered by the AAA Latin American Champion.

Wagner gave Hayes a strong fight, but Hayes was able to pick up the win to retain his title. Late in the 10 minute match, Wagner went up top for a moonsault but Hayes was able to get out of the way. Hayes then hit Nothing But Net to get the pinfall and remain champion. You can see highlights from the match below.

Hayes’ title reign now stands at 71 days. He won the championship from Ilja Dragunov on the December 19th, 2025 episode of WWE Smackdown. He’s made seven defenses of the title so far.

For his part, Wagner has been AAA Latin American Champion for 203 days. He won his championship at AAA TripleMania XXXIII in August from El Mesias.
