Gunther says catchphrases have never been a major part of his approach to wrestling in WWE. He explained that his focus has always been on in-ring performance rather than on branding slogans.

Speaking in a recent interview with Rompipallone, the former World Heavyweight Champion opened up about why fans rarely hear him rely on signature phrases or repeated one-liners during promos. According to Gunther, that side of wrestling simply does not interest him as much as the actual work inside the ring.

“A man without phrases, I think. Yeah, I don’t know. There’s a reason why I don’t have any catchphrases or something like that, because I leave that to people like Cody Rhodes. They can give themselves all kinds of cool names and cool-sounding names that are easy for the marketing department to use, to put on t-shirts, but I don’t know, that’s not me, it’s not interested in that part. I’m interested in what happens in the ring, and that’s, yeah, that’s why I’m the number one, so.”

Still, he made it clear that he leaves that approach to other WWE stars who naturally fit that style better. During the interview, Gunther specifically referenced Cody Rhodes as an example of someone who handles that side of wrestling well.

Since joining WWE, Gunther has become one of the company’s most prominent main event talents through long championship reigns and high-profile matches. He is currently scheduled to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Clash in Italy.

The matchup will pit two very different wrestling personalities against each other, with Rhodes known for emotionally driven promos and Gunther continuing to lean into a more stripped-down fighting style.
