Gunther Opens Up WWE Smackdown, Demands Rematch With Cody Rhodes

Gunther is looking to get another shot at the WWE Undisputed Championship, calling for a rematch in the opening segment of WWE Smackdown. Friday night’s show kicked off with the Ring General livid over his loss to Rhodes at WWE Clash in Italy. Rhodes defeated Gunther at the PLE but the challenger’s foot had been under the ropes for part of the pinfall.
Gunther claimed that Rhodes cheated to win the match and said he was owed justice in the form of a rematch. Rhodes came down to the ring and said that Gunther was right, and that controversial finishes happen in wrestling. He said they could do the rematch tonight.
That led to Sami Zayn coming out toward the ring and saying that he was trying to avoid getting involved but couldn’t stand to listen to it anymore. He said that he had been denied a championship opportunity himself and had been wrong by both men.
The three traded words before Gunther knocked Rhodes into Zayn. He put Rhodes in a sleeper and Zayn pulled him off Rhodes, but was sent to the floor for his trouble. Rhodes then leapt a suicide dive on Gunther but Zayn was pushed into the way to take the brunt of it.
