It’s the day after the British J Cup – and we’ve got our sights firmly fixed on Uprising in December… commentary comes from Andy Quildan and Gio Nolastname as we’re live at the Network in Sheffield.

Senza Volto vs. Leon Slater
It’s worth noting that Senza Volto wasn’t part of the in-ring celebrations with Leon Slater after the British J Cup…

Senza’s offer of a fist-bump’s rebuffed as we start with a knuckle lock as the pair traded pinning attempts… including dual pins after a monkey flip, then a backslide from Senza before a shoulder tackle knocked down Slater.

A springboard ‘rana takes Leon down next, but Slater hits back with a dropkick ahead of a leaping splash into the corner. Senza throws Slater to the outside, but Leon styles it out… then came back with a leg sweep and a slingshot splash for a two-count. Senza’s able to hit back with a dropkick to knock Slater to the outside, where the pair traded chops.

Back inside, Senza gets a two-count after a kick to the back, before Senza telegraphed chops… Slater walks away from them, but couldn’t avoid another kick to the back as the Frenchman stayed on top. A misdirection cutter stops all that, as Slater turned things around in a hurry, following up with a dropkick into the corner before Senza’s headscissors took Slater outside for a tope.

Hurrying back inside, Senza ends up eating a front kick from Slater for a near-fall, before Senza countered a rack bomb into a crucifix for a two-count. The Code Red keeps Senza ahead for another two-count, before an Eiffel Tower attempt was escaped. Slater cracks Senza with an elbow, before a Blue Thunder Bomb almost led to the win… as Slater then headed up to hit the swanton 450.

Senza cuts off Slater with an uppercut, then went for a top rope ‘rana… Slater avoids it, but gets brought down with a Tiger feint kick in the corner. A standing Spanish Fly nearly gets Senza the win, before Slater kicked away a double-jump springboard moonsault. Another corner dropkick’s next from Leon, who then caught a handspring and turned it into the rack bomb for the win. ***¼

Mercedez Blaze vs. Dani Luna
Earlier this month in Southampton, these two fought to a no-contest… so here’s your rematch!

Blaze attacks Luna as she got to the ring, with commentary noting that Dani wasn’t wearing her knee brace this time around. Blaze scraps with Luna on the outside, leading to Luna getting posted… eventually Dani got a right hand in, knocking Blaze down, only for Mercedez to come back with a chair, which she used on Luna’s back.

Heading onto the side of the ring, Blaze continues to rough up Luna for a curb stomp. Luna refuses to stay down, as she pulled herself into the ring to get the match formally underway. Dani overwhelms Blaze after the bell, landing clotheslines before Blaze’s shotgun dropkick turned things back around.

Knees into the corner led to a butterfly suplex on Luna into the corner for a two-count, while a full nelson on the mat kept Luna in trouble. A running Meteora almost put Dani away, with a Tower of Blaze draping DDT looking to follow… Luna fought it off and came down with a missile dropkick instead.

Blaze looks to return with a hammerlock’d DDT, but Luna’s able to come back with a diving kick instead, then a clothesline, before a powerbomb ragdolled Blaze for a near-fall. The pair trade shots from there, but a front kick knocks Blaze outside… where she grabbed a chair and threw it into the ring. Of course, the ref confiscates it, but Blaze has a second chair… which she cracks Luna with behind the ref’s back for the pin – although I get the feeling this feud must continue! **¾

Great British League 2023 Block B: Sunshine Machine (TK Cooper & Chuck Mambo) vs. Subculture (Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster)
This was Sunshine Machine’s first match in this year’s league… and win-or-die for the champions, after they’d lost their opener to the Greedy Souls last month.

Mambo and Andrews start off the match evenly, but Mambo’s able to pick up Andrews in a Gory special – albeit in the wrong corner if they were to go for the Gutterball early on. Escaping, Andrews armdrags free, only for Mambo’s drop toe hold to lead to a Romero special… TK Cooper tags in to hit the Flatliner out of it for a two-count, before a blind tag from Webster saw him come in to trade shoulder tackles with Cooper.

TK pulls ahead here, but gets caught with a crucifix from Webster for a two-count, then a moonsault press as Subculture looked to get back in control. Another blind tag has Mambo in for a quick double-team to Webster for a two-count, before TK took a flying ‘rana from Webster.

Webster keeps going, tagging Andrews back in as a double-team hiptoss and a pair of standing moonsaults nearly put away TK, who remained in the wrong part of the ring as far as he was concerned. Heading outside didn’t help as Webster took to the air with a plancha, before Andrews came back… only for Cooper to begin to fight free as he finally tagged in Mambo.

Chuck runs wild with a rope-walk armdrag to Andrews, following with a slam and a legdrop for a two-count. Webster holds the ropes as Mambo, then Andrews dove outside… but there’d been a tag in there as Webster’s legal and continues to push on against the former tag champions.

Andrews’ armbar was fought out of by Mambo, who hits the ropes again for a springboard back elbow to Subculture. TK’s back despite the numeric disadvantage, as a running shooting star press forced Andrews to break up a pin on Webster. TK’s able to catch Andrews in the ropes with the Omelette du Fromage, before a Dodon knee and a brainbuster laid out Webster for a near-fall.

Sunshine Machine take over with the German Suplex Turbo Charged By The Power of Friendship for a near-fall on Webster… Andrews gets thrown outside by Mambo, but is able to chuck him onto the edge of the ring as TK again found himself isolated. An assisted Falcon arrow nearly gets the win, but a returning Mambo broke up the pin, before he began to tee off on Webster.

A headbutt from Webster sinks Mambo, before TK tried to steal it with a roll-up… the Parade of Moves keeps going en route to a Gory special/cutter combo. A gutbuster/stomp combo squashes Andrews for a near-fall, leading to Andrews trying to fight away from his old nickname… doing so with a double Stundog to Sunshine Machine. That leaves Mambo laying, but TK grabs hold of Andrews in the corner to stop the momentum.

TK looks to go for an Electric Chair drop on Andrews… but Webster blind tags in and hits a bicycle knee, sparking the Blitz-Knee-Bop, which proved to be enough to get the win. Subculture get their first three points here, while Sunshine Machine remain on zero with two matches to go. Sunshine Machine get CPF in London at the start of November… ***¼

Revolution Match: Gabe Kidd, Connor Mills, Will Kaven & Joshua James vs. Sha Samuels, Robbie X, Cameron Khai & David Francisco
The Revolution tag is the branded version of the New Japan elimination match – with pins, submissions and over-the-top eliminations counting. There’s no DQs this time around though.

Cameron Khai’s gotten new music for those keeping track, while Sha almost had a hell of a demotion. When we get going, it’s James and Francisco trading shoulder tackles before James ran through Francisco… all while Gabe Kidd was screaming at James from the floor. A dropkick from Francisco lands, as does a leg drop en route to a crucifix for a two-count before Will Kaven tagged himself in.

Connor Mills and Gabe Kidd swarmed the ring as well as things hurriedly spilled outside, breaking down as the camera crew had a whale of a time keeping up. Robbie X decides to join in with a moonsault into the front row, leaving Gabe shaking like a wet dog. Back in the ring, Robbie cracks Kaven with a hiptoss and a cartwheel dropkick for a two-count, before Cameron Khai came in to drop Kaven with a superkick.

Francisco’s back to go for a uranage on Kaven, but we end up with Kaven getting lifted up onto the apron… he hangs up Francisco with a neckbreaker in the ropes, dropping to the floor as he went… and that’s not an elimination for… reasons? Kaven tags out to Connor Mills who began to pelt Francisco with kicks, before Gabe Kidd decided to join with some chops.

Kaven’s back as Francisco’s cornered, while Joshua James tagged in… and slammed Francisco for a two-count. Eventually Franmcisco frees himself and tagged in Samuels, who went right after Connor Mills with right hands. A back body drop dumps Mills, whose rebound lariat eventually finds a way through, before another back body drop countered an East End Destroyer attempt.

Mills hits an Orange Crush Bomb on Samuels to spark a Parade of Moves, featuring Kidd’s impressive deadlift brainbuster on Robbie X, and a belly-to-belly from James to Khai. We keep going as Sha’s uranage backbreaker and Exploder dumps Kaven, before Connor Mills returned to take an East End Destroyer, before a spinebuster led to Mills’ elimination at 9:40.

Will Kaven hits the ring to swarm Samuels, landing some hammer elbows and a suplex for a two-count. Sha just sidesteps Kaven as he came off the middle rope, then pushed Kaven into the corner for James to tag in. Francisco gets the tag on the other side as a double clothesline from James finds its mark, ahead of a pop-up powerbomb from James… only for Kaven to tag himself back in.

Josh James took exception to that – and being spat on – before clotheslining his own man over the top as Kaven was next to go at 11:54. Gabe Kidd was equally pissed off, shoving James before taking a headbutt from James… Kidd just wears down James with slaps before hauling him over the top rope as we had back-to-back self eliminations at 12:25.

That left Kidd in the unenviable 1-on-4 spot, but he didn’t back down, instead heading outside for a chair that he launched at Khai and Robbie. Francisco tries a flash roll-up, but Kidd kicks out before he caught the Contender with a piledriver to reduce the deficit at 13:46. Kidd targets Sha next, trading overhand palm strikes ahead of a lariat from Samuels.

Kidd rises up after a PK to the back, swiping at Sha, who gave as good as he got ahead of a Bull lariat and a piledriver as Gabe scored his second elimination at 14:53. Robbie X leaps in with a Molly Go Round to Kidd as Khai and Robbie looked to double-team Kidd for a spell… a Beyblade kick and a Pingshot cutter almost puts Kidd away, only for Kidd to again pull ahead as another Bull lariat and piledriver got rid of Khai at 16:34.

We’re down to Kidd and Robbie X, with the latter going for an X-Claimation… it’s blocked as Kidd began to wear down Robbie with chops. Robbie hit back with an enziguiri and a Finlay roll, while a standing shooting star press almost put Gabe away. Robbie drags Kidd into the corner ahead of a Spiral Tap… but Robbie has to leap over Kidd ahead of a Pele kick… but the X-Claimation again fails as Kidd hit back with a Saito suplex.

Robbie shakes it off to hit that X-Claimation at the third time of asking, but it’s not enough for the win… so he heads up top once more. He crashes and burns on a Spiral Tap, but looked to surprise Kidd with an inside cradle. Kidd kicks out, and is quickly back with a Bull Lariat for a near-fall, before the piledriver completed the one-man comeback as Kidd stood alone at the end. ***¾

Post-match, Kidd took the mic and challenged Will Ospreay for Uprising in December…

Chantal Jordan vs. Kanji
These two met at Rev Pro’s 10 Year Anniversary last year – and provided an opportunity for Kanji to bounce back from her loss last night.

A tentative start saw the pair exchange collar-and-elbow tie-ups until Jordan took things to the corner, stopping to slap Kanji on the break. Jordan stayed ahead, knocking Kanji into the corner for some hip attacks before a shotgun dropkick got turned into a slingshot into the corner.

Kanji’s struggling as her back injury from last night flared up… but Jordan took advantage with a basement dropkick into the corner, before a PK drew a two-count. A suplex gets Jordan another two-count, as she keeps Kanji grounded with a chinlock, while a backdrop driver keeps Kanji very much on the back foot.

Jordan catches Kanji’s attempt to come off the middle rope, snapmaring her to the mat ahead of more kicks to the back. Eventually Kanji made an opening with a neck twist a la ZSJ, before Jordan kicked out Kanji’s leg in a bid to fight back. Instead, Kanji pulls Jordan into some elbow strikes, while a forearm to the back of the head drew a near-fall.

Shots to the back from Jordan quickly built up to a Ki Krusher for a near-fall, as the pair then resumed by trading blows… a head kick from Kanji sinks Chantal, who’s then caught in the ropes with a Dragon sleeper. Chantal’s dragged onto the apron for some hammer elbows, but Jordan’s able to hit a backfist from the apron… only to get caught with another neck twist as she tried to head back into the ring.

Jordan’s able to return with a powerbomb and a second head kick, but Kanji’s able to kick out… so Jordan scoops her up for a tombstone, only for Kanji to get free with headscissors. Another shotgun dropkick takes Kanji back, but she’s right back out of the corner with almost a Hidden Blade to get the win. ***

Great British League 2023 Block A: Billington Bulldogs (Mark Billington & Thomas Billington) vs. The Knights (Ricky Knight Jr. & Zak Knight)
The Bulldogs lost their opening block match, whereas the Knights beat Mark Trew and Kieran Lacey earlier in the month. I fear for these kids…

Zak and Mark start us off, building to shoulder tackles ahead of the double-dropkick stand-off. Tags bring in Thomas and RKJ, who trade shoulder tackles ahead of a dropkick from Thomas, before those two began to trade chops. Ricky’s taken to the corner as Mark returned with some forearms to RKJ… before Ricky snapped back with a powerslam.

Zak’s back to hit a stacked up Samoan drop on the Billingtons, aided by a RKJ stomp, before RKJ’s senton bomb crushed Mark… as did Zak’s moonsault. Meanwhile, RKJ tries to chop through Thomas as those two scrapped around ringside, and Mark’s left rather isolated as the Knights were having their way with him.

A LOOONG stalling suplex from RKJ dumps Mark for a near-fall, ahead of a wicked dropkick for a two-count. Zak returns to rough up Mark a little, but Mark finally forces an opening and made the tag out to Thomas. Ricky’s back too as he and Thomas trade blows, but a clothesline from Thomas, then a gutwrench suplex created an advantage, ahead of a piledriver.

A falling headbutt’s next from Thomas, before he went up top to try and do it like his uncle… but RKJ rolls outside, and gets cracked with a missile dropkick to the floor. Zak gets in on the act, but he’s cut off by Mark… who took things outside for a crossbody to Zak. Back inside, Thomas Billington hits the Dynamite headbutt, but RKJ’s senton bomb breaks up the pin.

Zak’s sit-down splash squishes Thomas, as did a back senton, before a crucifix bucklebomb had the Knights on their way… a pop-up double-team cutter nearly wins it as Mark broke up the pin from the floor. A Destroyer from Mark out of the corner sets up for a backbreaker/flying elbow combo for a near-fall on Zak, before RKJ cut off a Hart Attack.

From there, Thomas is taken up for a Shell Shock from RKJ, before Zak’s package piledriver left Thomas laying. Mark’s in to try and make an opening, but he’s caught as the Knights olbiterated him with a Doomsday Destroyer for the win. That puts the Knights atop block A with six points, while the Bulldogs are eliminated with one match left. **½

Post-match, the Knights and Billingtons shake hands…

Wild Boar vs. Mascara Dorada
This match was booked before yesterday’s British J Cup final, but Dorada has a bone to pick with Wild Boar, who unmasked him during the final…

Boar charges at Dorada to get us going, but Dorada sidesteps… then kipped up after taking a shoulder tackle. Flipping around led to Dorada’s spinny tijeras, taking Boar outside. Boar heads through the crowd, but Dorada’s run up onto the and dove off it.

Back inside, Boar crushes Dorada with a crossbody for a two-count, before he bit away on Dorada’s mask in the corner. I wonder if masks are good for your teeth? A clothesline drops Dorada for a two-count, before Boar again tried to rip off Dorada’s mask.

Dorada snaps back in with a gamengiri, before a rebound armdrag off the ropes and a running shooting star press nearly put Boar away. A Blue Thunder Bomb’s flipped out of by Dorada, but Boar’s back to the crossbody for a two-count as that Blue Thunder Bomb eventually landed for a near-fall.

Dorada keeps going though, landing an Electric Chair Neckbreaker on Boar for a near-fall. More biting from Boar stops Dorada briefly, as he came back with a crucifix flipped out into a facebuster for a near-fall, before Boar found his way in with a spear in the corner, then the cannon-boar.

A pop-up powerbomb plants Dorada next for a near-fall, before a wheelbarrow armdrag looked to get Dorada back in it. Boar tries again to unmask Dorada, but it’s thwarted as the luchador ends up going up top for a shooting star press, which was enough to get some revenge for the Stevenage unmasking… ***½

Alex Zayne vs. Michael Oku
Zayne’s in more friendly territory here – there’s at least a few Taco Bells in Sheffield…

Zayne looked for the Taco Driver early on, but Oku was smart to it, just like how Zayne was wise to the early half crab attempt. A side headlock from Zayne’s wrenched in, while a shoulder tackle knocked Oku down as he pushed his away free. Oku’s able to find an opening with a tijeras though, then a dropkick, before a Cinnamon Twist caught Oku after a drop down was met with a double knee drop.

Oku’s left on his knees after a knee to the ribs, while a Baja Blast drew a near-fall, before a missile dropkick to the chin knocked Zayne down. Oku takes a while to get back to his feet, but still beat Zayne back up as the pair began to trade forearms, leading to an Oku DDT, then a springboard moonsault for a near-fall.

Zayne evades another half crab, rolling outside… but into the path of a tope from Oku, who rearranged some furniture while chopping Zayne around… only for Zayne to bounce off the bottom rope on the outside, rebounding with some headscissors to Oku. More chops follow as Zayne kept resetting the count… but Oku’s able to break the routine, knocking Zayne down ahead of a Fosbury Flop.

The dive’s caught as Zayne ends up going onto the apron… his Moon-Sauce backflip knees miss, before an attempted suplex onto a guard rail saw Oku dump Zayne on the rails. Back inside, Zayne swings at Oku, but it’s ducked as a backslide from Oku led to see-saw pinning attempts.

Oku tries for a misdirection knee, but it’s missed as the front flip axe kick from Zayne finds its mark. Zayne takes things up top ahead of an avalanche Dragonrana… but Oku rolls through into a half crab, which ended in the ropes. Oku’s back up top for a frog splash to the back of Zayne… a second one follows to the front for a near-fall.

Oku crashes and burns on a corner dropkick as Zayne hit back with a back suplex… the Taco Driver looks to follow, but Oku escaped to hit a superkick instead. A leap off the top sees Zayne catch Oku for a Taco Driver, but it’s rolled through into a half crab for the eventual submission. ***¼
