Backstage Update on Ireland Potentially Hosting WWE WrestleMania in Future

As noted, Kilkenny councilor Maurice Shortall told the Irish Mirror last week that Ireland is “well placed” to put forward a “credible and competitive” bid to secure hosting rights for WrestleMania.

Fightful Select has an update on the development. According to Corey Brennan, those close to the situation consider it a “long-term project,” one that can become a reality if the Irish government views the country as a “global sporting hub.”

According to the report, sources dismissed concerns around Croke Park residents protesting the event being staged at the iconic stadium, as they have in the past, citing the NFL’s events at the venue and also the upcoming game between Manchester United and Leeds this August.

However, for Ireland to secure the hosting rights for WWE’s Showcase of the Immortals, the concerned authorities would have to at least match the six-million-dollar bid that Las Vegas placed to host WrestleMania 42. This is being seen as a major roadblock by some in the Irish wrestling circuit. Additionally, the Irish weather is also being seen as a potential deterrent due to Croke Park not having a roof.

The report notes that if WrestleMania were to take place in Ireland, the wrestling extravaganza could add a whopping 300 million Euros to the country’s economy.
