Jonathan Coachman Slams Syringe Spot During Hangman Page vs. Swerve Strickland at AEW All Out
– During a recent interview with Gabby AF, former WWE broadcaster Jonathan Coachman discussed the controversial Unsanctioned Steel Cage Match between Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland at AEW All Out earlier this month. Specifically, Coachman called the spot where a syringe was used during the match “disgusting.” Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):
Coachman on the syringe spot in Hangman Page vs. Swerve Strickland: “People [say], ‘Coach, that was a storyline. If this was in a movie …’ It’s not a movie. It’s a real life movie, and these are real things with kids in the front row watching it in real time. And this goes back to laziness … When you can’t write a story good enough that you have a hypodermic needle inside somebody’s mouth — it was disgusting.”
On Tony Khan making his decisions based on fan reactions on social media: “I know for a fact that he does that. So he’s listening to these scrubs and these marks who think they know what they’re talking about.”
On the danger of children imitating the spots from AEW matches: “I’m waiting for — and I hate to say this — the story that comes out that some 9-year-old kid suffocates his brother because they’re playing in the backyard, and he saw Bryan Danielson do it, so I’m going to do it. I hated the whole [show].”
Hangman Page won the “unsanctioned” Cage Match against Swerve Strickland at AEW All Out 2024, getting some payback for the time Strickland invaded his home a while ago.
