Kit Wilson Calls Upcoming Jelly Roll Match the Biggest of His Career

Fans may scoff, but he’s not wrong. As a singles wrestler, Kit Wilson has never had as big a spotlight as against music star Jelly Roll. Since having to go solo due to partner Elton Prince’s injury, Kit Wilson has often shown up to be squashed by surprise opponents. Tonight on Smackdown, though, he will have a match that has been set up for a week.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated (via Fightful), Wilson declared, “This is the biggest match of my career, and that’s not a knock on any professional wrestler, but that is just to highlight how big of a superstar Jelly Roll is in his own right. He loves this business and he wants to be a part of this business. So this is big for him, ’cause I’m giving him this time, but this is big for me as well. I won’t deny that.”
Celebrity matches at one time had a stigma to them, but at least since Logan Paul transitioned to a more full-time star, and Sami Zayn went from fighting Johnny Knoxville in a comedy match to being in the WrestleMania main event, that’s no longer the case. It’s a sign of the company’s faith in Wilson that they trust him to handle a rookie and make it look good.
“The last time I probably faced someone with that experience level was when I was at that experience level, when I was in a small training school in Kent, England,” noted Wilson. “I don’t take this lightly..This is just a launching pad to bigger and better things.”
Given that this is WrestleMania season, many fans, and Dave Meltzer, are speculating that the match could be a set up for something bigger on the Grandest Stage.
