– During a recent interview with They Made Their Way to the Ring, former WWE Superstar Layla El discussed her WWE career. During the conversation, Layla spoke about if there was any talk of having WWE women’s tag team titles during her era teaming Michelle McCool as part of LayCool, when they were also co-holders of the WWE Women’s Championship. Layla El stated the following (via Fightful):

“I think there was talk about it. At that time, they didn’t really want to put too much energy into the Divas and the women. It was like, ‘No, we have two titles. We’re just going to go with that.’ It was never anything that would have happened. I know that for a fact. No matter how much we would have pushed, that was something that was not on the table and not possible to attain. It’s a shame because it could have been pretty good and funny. Could you imagine the stables and teams we could have had?”

WWE would eventually start a women’s tag team division in early 2019, with Bayley and Sasha Banks becoming the inaugural champions after winning the titles at WWE Elimination Chamber 2019.
