Former WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria recently expressed her interest in wrestling in Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide.
Ever since WWE announced its takeover of the Mexican promotion (in April 2025), many main roster talents, including Lyra’s tag team partner Bayley, have competed in AAA.
Speaking to Soundsphere Magazine , the Irish pro wrestler said that she wants to grow as a performer, and for that, she must explore uncharted territories, like Mexico.
“I’ve never been to Mexico, so I feel like, oh, it’s a whole new world. The style over there… It’s such a huge element of wrestling that I haven’t even touched. Even just in terms of growing as a performer, I would love to go to Mexico. I keep hearing that the crowds there are, like, amazing. The atmosphere is electric,” she said.

When asked about the AAA wrestlers whom she’d like to work with, Lyra named La Catalina and Lady Flammer.
“Yeah, maybe Flammer. Maybe her—that would be amazing.”
On what makes wrestling special
The style of wrestling in Mexico is completely different from other promotions, especially in the US, and, according to Lyra, this is what makes wrestling so special.
“I think the best thing about wrestling is when you have a different style and then you clash with another style… They’re my favorite type of matches when you’ve got two completely different performers in the ring together, and I think that’s a lot of the time when the magic happens.”
Speaking of La Catalina, the Chilean star will join forces with Lyra’s ally Bayley and reigning AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champion and NXT Women’s Champion Lola Vice at Noche de Los Grandes to take on Flammer, Maravilla, and La Hiedra in a six-woman tag team match.
