UPDATE: It appears as if that men’s WarGames match for Survivor Series is not as out there as it initially seemed to some. As noted below, the WON reported that CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Jacob Fatu, Jey Uso and either Jimmy Uso OR LA Knight vs. Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Brock Lesnar and Austin Theory was the plan for Survivor Series as of a week ago. That caused a number of raised eyebrows, but Fightful Select has asked about the matter and were told that it actually was one of the options being considered.
It’s worth noting that Fightful specifically says “ONE OF” the options, which would suggest that the situation is not set in stone. It’s not known what the other potential options are for the men’s WarGames match.
ORIGINAL: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has details on the current planned matches for this year’s WWE Survivor Series, which happens at Petco Park in San Diego on November 29. Those matches include:
* Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Drew McIntyre OR Jacob Fatu
* WWE Intercontinental Championship: Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. John Cena
* Men’s Wargames Match: CM Punk, Roman Reigns, Jacob Fatu, Jey Uso and either Jimmy Uso OR LA Knight) vs. Seth Rollins, Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, Brock Lesnar and Austin Theory
* Women’s Wargames Match: AJ Lee, Rhea Ripley, Charlotte Flair, Alexa Bliss & IYO SKY vs. Becky Lynch, Asuka, Kairi Sane, Nia Jax & Lash Legend
Theory has been out with an injury, but is believed to be coming back. This happens after the company had been building a feud between Theory and Grayon Waller, with Theory as the babyface, that was later dropped de to the injury. It was noted that Theory is someone who will get multiple chances because he “looks like a star.”
It was noted that some of the lineup may change, although there have been fewer changes under Triple H than there were under Vince McMahon.
Survivor Series is of course one of the most iconic PLE brands in WWE history, with memorable moments from Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Kurt Angle, Rey Mysterio, Big Boss Man, JBL, Shane McMahon, Bobby Lashley, R-Truth, The Undertaker, Miz, Chris Jericho, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Batista, Kane, Bobby Heenan, and others. The show has been a showcase for legendary WWE rivalries and alliances and in recent years featured matches between Team Smackdown and Team RAW stars.
