On the latest episode of Extreme Life Of Matt Hardy, the TNA star talked about The Undertaker — Mark Calaway — as a key creative force behind the mask vs. mask match down in AAA between Chad Gable and El Grande Americano II. You can check out some highlights below:

On The Undertaker As AAA’s Booker

“Clip this right now: Undertaker, Mark Calaway? He keeps up matches like this and angles like this, he is in the running for Booker of the Year, no doubt about it. And I saw him a couple of times and I joke with him about it. But legit, it was so good. This s**t was so good.”

On Taker’s Booking On the Show:

“I could see the match being structured like this with Taker, especially with those run-ins. I’d guess that was Taker… I learned so much from him. I got to work with Taker quite a bit whenever I did the Matt Hardy Version 1 thing. And I was kind of like, I was Brock’s minion to a degree, and I got to work with Taker in several different matches and house shows.

“But the fact that he’s he’d say, ‘I’ll just let this breathe a little bit. This is going to be such a big moment.’ And he didn’t outright say it, but I think too, it’s like, ‘We don’t need to do more, because it’s me.’ Wichout being egotistical, ‘We don’t need to do more, because it’s me.’ But I see myself doing that exact same thing now… When we worked with Sinner & Saint, we were talking to them about the match and they wanted our feedback. I was like, ‘Let’s find a different way to get into that. I don’t think we need to do all that — let’s milk that out, and we’re donna get a reaction, and the crowd will ride it.’ In those moments I feel like Taker talking to early young Matt Hardy.”

On Taker’s Style:

“Taker made a point — he said, ‘Hey, if that’s really your girl, you’re not going to let that happen.’ Because people are looking at this from a realistic perspective. At one point, I was more motivated to think about spots and what’s going to make people pop, but he made me realize there’s such a true story and realism aspect to this too, and if you can interweave that with everything else, it makes things so much better.”
