Michael Cole says he always has things he’d like to take back on commentary, and recalled apologizing to Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks after their WrestleMania 37 match. Belair and Banks competed for the Smackdown Women’s Championship on night one of the 2017 WrestleMania. The end of the match saw Belair make the pinfall but Cole mistakenly said that Banks kicked out, which led to some confusion initially.
Cole was asked in his interview with The Sal Licata Show if he has any regrets on things he’s called, and said that he has them all the time. He singled out the WrestleMania 37 botch and said that he apologized to both Banks or Belair about it. You can see the highlights below:
On If There Are Calls He Looks Back On That He Regrets:
“Every day. Every show something happens, right? This is live television. We’re saying a million words a night, you’re always going to mess up. You’re always going to screw up. You’re always going to have an issue. I want to throw a perfect game, but how many perfect games have been in the history of Major League Baseball, right? You’re never going to throw a perfect game, most likely. You might throw a no hitter. You might throw a one-hitter.”
On His WrestleMania 37 Mistake:
“I had a massive screw-up in the WrestleMania where Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair headlined. The first time two African-American women had headlined the main event at WrestleMania, and I screwed up at the finish. I was embarrassed by it. I apologized to both of the women afterward. They understand that things happen. The fans have never to this day let me forget about it. But it is something I regretted. I’d love to have it back if I could.”
