WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley announced on his Instagram account today that he’s parting ways with WWE due to the company’s relationship with United States President and WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump. As previously reported, Foley recently publicly criticized President Trump after his comments on Truth Social posted in the wake of the tragic murder of director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner.
Trump attributed Reiner’s death to to “Trump derangement syndrome,” a term he often uses to label his critics. Reiner was an outspoken liberal and democrat, along with an outspoken critic of Trump.
Trump’s comments regarding Reiner drew widespread outrage and criticism, including from Foley, who noted, “How any of my @wwe colleagues can stand by, let alone stand next to this man is beyond me.”
Foley is now taking another step, announcing that due to WWE’s close relationship with President Trump, he plans on parting ways with the company, informing WWE’s talent relations team that he won’t make any more appearances while Trump is still in office.
Additionally, Mick Foley revealed that he won’t be signing a new WWE Legends deal when his current one expires in June. He wrote the following in his statement:
“PARTING WAYS WITH WWE
While I have been concerned about WWE‘s close relationship with Donald Trump for several months — especially in light of his administration’s ongoing cruel and inhumane treatment of immigrants (and pretty much anyone who “looks like an immigrant”) — reading the President’s incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death is the final straw for me.
I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy. Last night, I informed @WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.
Additionally, I will not be signing a new Legends deal when my current one expires in June. I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, “I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more.”
WWE Chief Creative Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque joined President Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition and visited the White House earlier this year when the president announced the revival of the Presidential Fitness Test in public schools.
Former WWE executive Linda McMahon, the estranged wife of former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, is also a member of President Trump’s cabinet as Secretary of Education. She was in attendance at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event over the weekend.
Triple H nor any active members of the WWE rosters have responded to President Trump’s recent comments regrading Rob Reiner.
