MVP Weighs In On Syringe Spot At AEW Revolution: ‘That’s Not Me’

MVP knows that there are people who loved the syringe spot in the main event of AEW Revolution, but he says it’s not for him. The main event of Sunday’s show was a brutal Texas Deathmatch that saw MJF defeat Hangman Page to retain the AEW World Championship. All number of weapons came into the match, but the most infamous was the return of the syringe, which MJF stuck through Page’s cheek from the inside of his mouth out.
MVP was asked about the spot during an appearance on the Battleground Podcast. He noted that he would rather see people cause damage with their fists and said his “hat’s off” to those who do it, but he considers it beneath wrestlers. He also weighed in on the topic of AEW making their tickets affordable to fans; you can see highlights below:
In AEW Tackling Affordability:
“That’s one of the things that I’ve been talking about for some while now. It’s the affordability. You know, right now in our country we have a problem with affordability across the board. I don’t care what your political affiliation is, it’s tough. And whatever your wrestling affiliation is, you have to admit that there are some companies that are charging more than the average wrestling fan can afford to go and see some good live wrestling.
“AEW, affordability matters. And we love the fact that Tony Khan has set up a company where we get down to wrestling. It’s where the best go to wrestle. And a father of two or three, a family of four, can go to an AEW show and have a great time.”
On the Syringe Spot At Revolution:
“I — [puts up hands] these are my weapons right here. I could do more damage with these than MJF can do with a syringe. So I mean, it’s crazy, and the shock value — but beat somebody up. I dare you, beat somebody up. Get that same kind of reaction inflicting extreme violence on someone without weapons. Bobby Lashley can do it, Sheldon Benjamin can do it, and I can do it.
“I mean, it’s pro wrestling. The marquee says ‘wrestling.’ It doesn’t say ‘bells, whistles, and zabada.’ You can do that and some people want that, but at the end of the day, I like to see people go out there with their physical talents and abilities and impose their will on an opponent. I don’t need a cinder block or a syringe to do it. And you know, for the guys that get off on that, that like to engage in that? I take my hat off to them. Go for it. And obviously the fans, they like that. But that’s not me. It’s undignified, it’s beneath us.”
