Note On Pushback In WWE Over Sami Zayn & ‘Gingerbread Man’ Angle

Sami Zayn put an end to the “Gingerbread Man” amid his feud with Trick Williams, and a new report has some detail on the reaction in WWE to the storyline. As noted, Zayn destroyed the Gingerbread Man costume that was part of the feud between Williams and Zayn on last week’s WWE Smackdown.

According to Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, there were several creative members pushing against the use of the gimmick on Smackdown. One source called the gimmick “hokey and archaic.”

The report notes that there was a lot of pushback from creative members in regard to the direction of the storyline as it was being discussed in WWE.

Trick Williams will defend his WWE United States Championship against Sami Zayn at WWE Backlash in a rematch of their Wrestlemania 42 match, where Williams won the championship. Backlash takes place from Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida on May 9th. It will air on ESPN Unlimited in the US and Netflix internationally.
