OVW referee Dallas Edwards is cleared to return after suffering a medical emergency in the ring at a show in March. As you may recall, Edwards took a bump during a match at the March 12th OVW show. He took a forearm dive off the top and began convulsing in the ring. The match continued for nearly a minute before it was stopped, with wrestlers moving Edwards out of the way.
Edwards was taken to the hospital and was diagnosed with a concussion as well as a subdural hematoma. He posted to Instagram on Thursday to announce that he has been cleared and back to working as a referee.
Edwards wrote:
“I have been fully cleared recently and am back to reffing!
The recovery hasn’t been an easy one. But there have been some amazing people in my circle that went above and beyond to make sure that I wasn’t alone.
You all know who you are.
I want every one of you to know that I am eternally grateful for your love, and support through a really tough time.
With that being said, I will be resuming my schedule from before and taking additional bookings accordingly!!”
OVW took heavy criticism for how the matter was handled, particularly how the competitors in the match continued and that both they and the ringside medic didn’t realize the seriousness of the matter. OVW announced new safety protocols in the wake of the incident.
