Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens Rumored for WrestleMania 38

– As previously reported, news surfaced this week that WWE has been working on putting together a match for Hall of Famer Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38 in Dallas, Texas in April. Also, it’s gone as far as WWE reaching out to Austin to see if he’s interested in returning to the ring for a match on the card. Dave Meltzer had more details on the present situation on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio.
According to Meltzer, the idea with Kevin Owens cutting heel promos about Texas is a way to start booking a matchup between him and Austin at WrestleMania 38. Meltzer said the match is apparently on because Owens has started the anti-Texas promos on Raw. Also, WWE is looking to book Austin for WrestleMania because they “still have a lot of tickets left to sell.
Additionally, Meltzer reported that he was checking multiple times behind-the-scenes for Raw that day, and sources were saying that the match between Owens and Austin is booked, which is why WWE went forward with Owens’ promo. Meltzer added, “I don’t know that it’s a done deal, but people were talking like it was.”
Steve Austin has not wrestled since WrestleMania 19 in 2003, where he lost to The Rock. He turned 57 years old last December. Meltzer indicated there have been offers and opportunities in the past for Austin to return to the ring, but they didn’t materialize.
WWE WrestleMania 38 is scheduled for April 2-3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
