Sting says his final run in All Elite Wrestling felt like the ideal place for his closing chapter, describing AEW as a promotion that matched his brand and felt “like home.” The WWE Hall of Famer reflected on the experience during an interview with Going Ringside, speaking about the end of a career that included major runs in WCW, TNA, WWE, and AEW.
When asked about his experience in AEW and how it compared to other major companies, Sting explained that each company carried a different atmosphere, but AEW stood out for its similarities with his presentation and in-ring identity. He noted that AEW offered an environment that allowed him to work in a way that felt authentic.
“They’re [TNA, WWE, AEW] all different in some ways. But the thing that I liked about AEW is that it just felt like my brand. It just felt like home to me.”
Sting also credited AEW president Tony Khan for the success of his run. He said Khan consistently supported him from the moment he signed. According to Sting, that commitment shaped the entire experience and ensured that his final stretch in wrestling unfolded the way he hoped. He added that his partnership with Darby Allin played a major role in making his retirement match at AEW Revolution possible.
“He was the best. He was phenomenal. He treated me like gold the whole way through. Yeah. I mean if it wasn’t for Tony, I wouldn’t have had the run that I had, and Darby, my partner.”
Sting retired in 2024 following his Revolution match, ending a career that spanned more than three decades and several major promotions. He is currently in a non-wrestling contract with AEW and makes sporadic appearances.
