Tony Khan isn’t sure about whether AEW will ever put their PPVs free behind a subscription service, noting that he believes they have a great model now. AEW PPVs currently run $49.99 on most platforms, with HBO Max subscribers able to get them for $39.99. Khan appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show for a new interview on Tuesday. He was asked whether he’s considered putting them free on a subscription, similar to how TKO does with WWE and UFC. You can see highlights below:

On Potentially Putting PPVs Free Behind a Subscription:

“I’m not sure. It’s a good question. I think with AEW, something I’ve been really conscious of and tried to stay consistent with is maintaining great prices for families or friends to come and watch the shows at an affordable price to be an AEW fan. And I think we’ve done a fantastic job with that…

“The pay-per-view price for AEW has been consistent since day one, it’s the same price it’s always been to order the pay-per-views… Now the pay-per-views are also on HBO Max. It’s only been a few months of this, but it’s really been working out very well. And it’s also great for the fans because it’s the lowest price, it’s $39.99. And if you’re an HBO Max subscriber already, that’s a great deal because you’re saving 10 bucks a month on these great pay-per-views.”

On Wanting To Keep Shows Price For Families:

“It really means a lot to me because I was a kid and my parents would not let me buy every single wrestling pay-per-view. So, I really appreciate whenever people do put the money in for every show. And that’s why I try to put so much into every pay-per-view and make it feel like you really got your money’s worth out of this show.”

On AEW’s Media Rights Situation:

“I think we have great model and we just signed a great media rights deal that I think even the most stringent analysts would say is a really strong deal for AEW and makes a lot of sense for us and also shows the faith that Warner Bros/TBS/TNT/HBO Max have in AEW.”
