Note on Whether Tony Khan Was Aware of Brody King/WBD Rumors

Brody King did not appear on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Following this, Dave Meltzer reported that King was kept off Dynamite to avoid anti-ICE chants that dominated his Eliminator match with MJF the week prior. Melzter claimed that the call to not have King on the show came directly from Warner Bros. Discovery.
Later, WBD issued a statement, denying any involvement. PWInsider further reported that Brody King was never scheduled to appear on this week’s Dynamite, as he and other AEW wrestlers flew out for Grand Slam: Australia on February 11.
Fightful Select has now confirmed the same in their latest report. The report notes that lots of wrestlers headed to Australia earlier in the week, while the remaining departed the country after Dynamite. The website noted that this is probably why Tony Khan and other higher-ups in the company did not hear about the WBD/Brody King rumors.
King challenged MJF for the AEW World Championship on tonight’s Grand Slam: Australia, and as was the case in their match on Dynamite, the crowd erupted with “F**K ICE” chants. According to Fightful, a number of sources in the company expected the chants despite the show being in Australia.
Brody ultimately failed to dethrone MJF as AEW World Champion.
