Trey Miguel Says He Was Initially Supposed To Sign With WWE In 2020

Trey Miguel recently revealed that he nearly joined Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz in WWE when they signed there in 2020. Wentz and Xavier joined WWE back in 2020, joining the NXT roster as Nash Carter and Wes Lee. The two exited Impact Wrestling, where they were part of The Rascalz with Miguel, to join WWE. Miguel stayed behind in TNA at the time and was eventually rejoined by Wentz when he was let go from WWE in April of 2022.
Miguel recently spoke with the Johnny I Pro Show for a new interview. During the conversation, he touched on how he was signed and signed to AEW in January, along with the rest of the Rascalz (including Myron Reed), but was let go soon after due to a homophobic social media post he made in 2020, clapping back at a troll. Miguel had apologized right after he made the post.
Miguel noted in the conversation that he had a similar thing happen with WWE, where he was set to join the company, and then it didn’t happen. He did not specify why he lost the offer and noted that he nearly quit wrestling then, but that Alex Shelley talked him into not walking away. You can see the highlights below (per Fightful):
On Getting an Offer From WWE Taken Away:
“Man, I wouldn’t be having this conversation with you right now if it weren’t for Alex Shelley. When Dez and Zach originally went to NXT, and I stayed at TNA, it was so hard. I remember when I got the news that I would not be going. Contrary to popular belief, people think that was a decision that I made. I did not make that decision; I wanted to go with my brothers. We did not wanna break this band up. But I had the offer, and it was gone.”
On Shelly Being Responsible For His Staying In Wrestling:
“I wanted to quit. I didn’t know what to do. I was afraid to stand on my own two feet and I was afraid to go back to the company that just gave us this big goodbye backstage with my tail tucked, you know? It was borderline embarrassing to me. And Shelley had taken me under his wing that year, because Don Callis — for whatever reason — said, ‘Hey, Shelley, I want you to look after The Rascalz.’ And Shelley and I, we really clicked and we became really close. And I remember January of 2021, we had a lot of deep conversations and he said this, ‘I’m not letting you quit. It’s time that we get to work and make you undeniable.’”
