WWE Set To Arrive On Netflix In Japan Later This Year

WWE will head to Netflix in Japan later this year, according to Netflix executive Gabe Spitzer. Spitzer recently spoke with Andrew Marchand for the latter’s Main Event podcast and was asked about Netflix’s relationship with WWE. Spitzer, who is the platforms’ VP of Sports, said that they view WWE as differently than traditional sports.
“We see it differently because it is truly that sports entertainment,” Spitzer said (per Fightful). “It is a soap opera that has ebbs and flows throughout an entire year and when we started to talk to WWE, obviously, they have this incredibly loyal, passionate audience that will come for Raw which we have in the U.S. week in and week out.”
He continued, “But I think they saw in us a platform that could help them grow around the world, and they’ve been incredible partners in that sense. We have all WWE content outside of the U.S. so that’s WrestleMania, it’s Raw, it’s SmackDown, and we’ve just launched in Italy, in Germany. We’re launching in Japan later this year.”
Netflix and WWE announced back in 2024 that Raw would come to the service starting in January 2025. The streamer is the home for Raw in the US and in several other countries. It is also the streaming home for WWE PLEs, NXT and Smackdown in those same overseas territories.
