Speaking recently with WhatCulture Wrestling, WWE’s Xavier Woods expressed his opinion that the wrestling industry requires a greater emphasis on helping talent transition out of active performance when they choose to retire (per Wrestling Inc). Woods referenced the stresses every wrestler experiences, both mentally and physically, over the course of their careers and stated his support for finding alternatives for performers to stay solvent. You can find a few highlights from Woods and watch the full interview below.

On the lack of attention paid to talent leaving active performance behind: “I’m very, very focused on what happens after wrestling as well as what’s happening right now. Honestly, and we don’t talk about this much. We never talk about what the exit process is like… I want to really explore, what is that transition like? How do we make that easier for people?”

On the need to invest in future talent: “It’s something we don’t talk about. And I think it’s something we should talk about a lot more and something we should expand on, especially with all these new people in the industry. So, I think that each generation has an obligation to do what they can to help the next generation.”
