Gift of the Gods Aztec Medallion Match: Aerostar defeated Drago @ 6:03 via pin [**½]
Trios Tournament Match: Fenix, Jack Evans and PJ Black defeated The Disciples of Death @ 9:10 via pin [***]
Lucha Underground Title Match: Champion The Monster Matanza Cueto vs. Mil Muertes went to a no contest [**¾]

– We get a video package, showing off highlights that brought us to tonight.

– Dario Cueto meets with Fenix, and informs him that he is lucky that he survived his match with Matanza. Drago is also there, and so is Aerostar. They were in the trios tournament last year, and Dario says he needs a team, but not him. Fenix will get two new partners, and they are PJ Black and Jack Evans. Aerostar will face Drago, for on of the ancient Aztec medallions.

Gift of the Gods Aztec Medallion Match: Drago vs. Aerostar: Really fun and fats paced beginning, mixing in cool counters and some high flying. Aerostar crashed and burned on a triple jump spot, which looked rough and like he broke his damn tailbone. He shook it off and hit a dive to the floor a few moments later. Drago then came back with a dive, and then a sweet DDT after he avoided a slingshot splash by Aerostar. There was a lot of back and forth here, Aerostar hit his wacky ropewalk, but Drago countered the RANA and then hit a flapjack style powerbomb. Commentary could be doing a much better job of explain that the back and forth was because they are friends and former partners, meaning that they know each other. Anyway, Aerostar hit a slingshot into the code breaker and then the slingshot splash to pick up the win. That was an overall rock solid opening match, a bit disjointed, but with a good finish. I honestly expected more.

– Texano and now Aerostar hold Aztec medallions.

– Johnny Mundo does ninja training, and Taya arrives to tell him he looks better than yesterday. She has news, saying that she demanded Mundo receive an Aztec medallion. Instead he has a match for one next week, because Dario makes you work for it. Mundo faces Cage next week for the medallion. Mundo then thought she’d be there to help even the score, but Taya informs him that it is a steel cage match.

Trios Tournament Match: Fenix, Jack Evans and PJ Black vs. The Disciples of Death (El Siniestro de la Muerte, Barrio Negro and Terce) w/Catrina: Fenix, Evans and Black had issues early over who would start the match. Black teased tagging Fenix, but he was a dick and was faking. Fenix played nice and helped Black, it broke down a bit and Evans was having fun directing traffic, but not getting in the ring, claiming he was stretching and other things. Fenix came up gimpy after a dive, and the Disciples took control after posting Evans on the post. I keep waiting for the Disciples to do something exciting. I am still waiting. Fenix got a hot tag, and during this Black and Evans argued on the apron ad Fenix was being awesome. The Disciples eventually cut off Fenix, with a great spike DDT spot, and beat him down as Black and Evans chilled in the corner. Fenix made his own comeback, and then Evans finally tagged in. He did Jack Evans things; flips and kicks and poses galore. He then argued with his team, Fenix got tagged back for more fun, but the flow was odd as they cut him off almost immediately. Fenix gave Black a high five prior to a RANA off the ropes, and Black scored with the springboard 450 for a near fall. Evans tagged din and told his partners that he had to show them ho wit was done, and hit a sweet Sasuke special. Fenix picked up the win for his team after that. Fenix, Jack Evans and PJ Black are this year’s trio that unexpectedly succeeds despite the fact that they do not get along at all. All three of them were really good in different ways; the Disciples existed. The Disciples have been largely useless in the ring, and this was only a good match because Fenix, Jack Evans and PJ Black made it one. Get some guys in there with some actual talent and it would have been much better.

– Puma, Rey Jr and Azteca Jr, Joey Ryan and the Crew, and now Fenix, Jack Evans and PJ Black have advanced in the tournament.

– Dario talks with Angelico, Havoc and Ivelisse in his office, bring up the reasons they did not get along to mess with them. They promised that no matter who wins the tournament they will retain the titles. BUT WAIT, Dario claimed that they were technically in the tournament, and next week they would face Puma, Rey Jr and Azteca Jr, Joey Ryan and the Crew, and now Fenix, Jack Evans and PJ Black in a four-way match and the winners would be the champions. Dario then called them “Team Havoc,” which caused them to argue, because Dario is a dick that only does shit for his own personal enjoyment.

– The Disciples of Jobbertown appear from pure electricity in an undisclosed location backstage. Catrina stated that they failed, and said what made it worse was that Fenix took the victory. She asked them why they should live, so Siniestro de la Muerte yelled out FINISH THEM and then performed dual fatalities as he ripped out the hearts of Barrio Negro and Terce. He gets to live.

Lucha Underground Title Match: Champion The Monster Matanza Cueto w/Dario Cueto vs. Mil Muertes w/Catrina : This was hyped as the battle of the monsters, with them going face to face and then clubbing away at each other. Muertes actually got Matanza down and beat on him, but it would not last long as the champion took Muertes off of his feet. Muertes may be a monster, but he was able to use some speed t mount more offense than about everyone put together, even getting Matanza down for a pinning attempt. Matanza didn’t have time for that shit, and delivered rolling gut wrench suplexes to Muertes. Muertes sent Matanza to the floor, and then followed with a dive. That is where Matanza suffered a legit knee injury. Dario made the mistake of attacking Muertes, Matanza made the limping save and the brawl continued around ringside. Catrina got involved, Matanza goozled her and Muertes made the save with a chair shot. They used an old metal water cooler and then brawled up the steps and into the upper part of the crowd. They fight went to the top of Dario’s office, where they teased tossing each other to the floor as Dario (with the best facial expressions) watched on. Muertes then hit the flatliner and both monsters crashed through the roof and into Dario’s office. Dario and Catrina faced off, proclaiming war as the show ended. I liked how they did this, because you don’t want to burn through Matanza vs. Muertes just yet. Matanza looked vulnerable for the first time, Muertes held his own, and we will have a rematch. Considering the knee injury to Matanza, they covered well (through editing and Matanza gutting it out) and got enough out of this to make it worth it.

– At the police station, we see a board where the captain is working the case. We see a deceased sign for Bael, and list of missing people (Del Rio, Hernandez, Blue Demon Jr, Big Ryck) is on the board, which is amazing. A new man arrives, a councilman (PLAYED BY LORENZO FUCKING LAMAS), and he wants to know what she’s doing in his territory. His employer wants her to drop the case on Cueto, she thinks it is the mayor, but he says his boss is much more powerful. He adds that it is friendly advice, from an old friend. Our lady captian was not happy about this.

* End scene.

* Thanks for reading.

The final score: review Good
The 411
This was a good show this week, not a lot of great wrestling, but the stories more than carried the show. We had another Aztec medallion awarded, Dario is a dick, we now know the goal of the trios tournament, Dario is a dick, and we got the first chapter in the monster vs. monster feud. There is also more there to the Catrina vs. Dario feud than we know, which seems more obvious than ever after this week. Also, LORENZO FUCKING LAMAS.
