PWInsider has a report on the Lucha Underground panel that took place yesterday at the New York Comic-Con. Executive producer for the show Eric Van Wagenen was on hand for the show and offered some news on the future of the series, which is currently in its third season on the El Rey Network.

According to Van Wagenen, the show has not yet been picked up for fourth season yet, but plans are being worked out on moving the show forward. Additionally, he said the promotion is moving slowly regarding live touring. The issue is that starting to tour too quickly could cause the promotion to lose money. He added that it’s better to start the touring process slowly before starting to take the promotion on tour before the time is right.

Van Wagenen also talked about what he ideally would like to do with the series. He would want to film the show for five months a year, and then pick specific markets for live dates for the remainder of the year. There wouldn’t be a weekly touring group, but there would be special live events.

Dorian Rodian of AAA added that the company has to find the right venues and markets, so the show doesn’t lose the essence of what makes Lucha Underground appealing to fans. The Temple is a big part of that.

Regarding the merchandise issue, the panelists said they were caught off guard by the demand of merchandise and licensing for the show. It’s an issue they plan to work on more to get more merchandise rolled out in 2017.

Lucha Underground currently airs every Wednesday at 8PM on the El Rey Network.
