Backstage Rumor on Bobby Lashley Being Promised Match With Brock Lesnar for WWE Return
– During today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed a potential matchup between WWE World champion Bobby Lashley and former champion Brock Lesnar. In the past, Lashley has made no secret of his desire for a matchup with the former NCAA Div. I, UFC, and WWE Heavyweight champion.
According to Meltzer, Lashley was actually told when he came back to WWE in 2018 he would get a matchup with Lesnar. Lashley made his long-awaited return to WWE in April 2018. However, the matchup between the Lashley and Lesnar never materialized, and WWE never got around to it. Obviously, the matchup has some novelty to it since Lesnar and Lashley have never faced each other, so it would at least be a fresh opponent for both men.
Meltzer said the chance of the matchup happening is based on if WWE is willing to pay Brock Lesnar enough money to come back again. As noted, Brock Lesnar’s last WWE contract expired after WrestleMania 36 in April 2020. Since that time, he’s reportedly been a free agent.
