– During a recent interview with Fightful’s The Spotlight with Jeremy Lambert and Stephen Jensen, wrestler Angelina Love addressed NWA owner Billy Corgan’s past comments regarding another all-women EmPowerrr event. Billy Corgan has previously stated the first event didn’t do well enough financially to hold a second one. He later stated that while he was hoping to put on another one in 2023, another issue is that a lot of the top female talent is currently under contract to other promotions.
Love defended Corgan over the controversy, noting that Corgan loves women’s wrestling. Below are some highlights:
Angelina Love on Billy Corgan: “I don’t think Billy is wrong in anything that he says. That man has been in the entertainment business for 35 years, the most difficult entertainment business, the music industry. I think he’s a creative genius and he loves wrestling. He loves women’s wrestling and is very supportive. He makes sure we’re all over the shows. He’s always been supportive of me and my career, I’ve known him for over 10 years. When things are put online, maybe the headlines are a little clickbaity, it’s possible things can be taken a certain way, but I don’t think he’s incorrect in saying that at all.”
On not being offended by Corgan’s comments regarding EmPowerrr: “It is a big deal to carry a pay-per-view like that and be TV ready. Some people are and some people aren’t, that’s not insulting, that’s kind of how it is for everybody. He’s a very open and honest person, I wasn’t offended by it at all. There is a lot of stuff coming for the women on the NWA shows next year. I’m sure that’ll happen, but I know if I was running a show, I would want to have the best people possible, and if you just don’t have enough of the best people possible, then maybe you have to postpone it, put it off, get something figured out. I think that’s fine.”
