New Godzilla Movie In Development At Toho, Godzilla Minus One Director Returning

Toho is in development on their next Godzilla film, with the writer and director of Godzilla Minus One back at the helm. Toho announced on Friday that the next film in the franchise is in the works and that Takashi Yamazaki is back as writer, director and visual effects supervisor. The announcement was made on Twitter, as you can see in the below video.

There is no word on the details behind the new film, including whether it will be a direct sequel to Godzilla Minus One. That film, released last year, grossed $116 million worldwide against a budget of less than $10 million to become the highest-grossing Japanese film in US box office history. It also won Best Visual Effects at the Oscars.

The news came as Godzilla Minus One returned to theaters this weekend and grossed $510,000 to finish at #14 — not bad for a re-release of a film that was in theaters just 10 months ago.
