Backstage Update on Ricky Starks’ AEW Contract Status
– Fightful Select has an update on the AEW contract status of former Tag Team Champion Ricky Starks. As previously reported, Starks was backstage at AEW Full Gear 2024 last Saturday. Starks is reportedly still under contract to AEW at the moment. He’s not appeared on AEW TV since March of this year.
According to the report, Starks isn’t currently factoring into any AEW creative plans or pitches, while he remains under contract. Starks hasn’t appeared on AEW TV since March. Numerous AEW sources indicated to Fightful that the company had an option year in the spring of 2024 on Starks, which was reportedly picked up. This extends his contract to the spring or summer 2025.
Before AEW picked up the option on his contract, it’s rumored that Starks was hoping to test the open market. Additionally, there appear to be no plans in AEW involving Starks at the moment, despite AEW renewing his contract earlier this year.
Fightful notes that Starks’ attendance backstage at Full Gear was said to be welcomed. During a recent appearance at GCW Dream On, Ricky Starks said that he wasn’t going to “be frozen” or “sit out” and let his career “dwindle.” He’s currently scheduled to wrestle Matt Cardona at GCW Highest in the Room on Saturday, December 14.
