Cook’s AAA on Fox Review 4.18.26

Hey kids! Steve Cook here with you for the latest episode of AAA on Mexico’s FOX & the United States’ YouTube! We’ve got three big matches tonight, including a Mixed Tag Team Championship Match! I’m a little surprised that Mr. Iguana didn’t make the WM card. I’m thinking Iguana vs. Danhausen for next year’s WrestleMania.

Cook’s Lucha Libre AAA Review 4.18.26

(English commentary was unavailable via WWE’s YouTube channel, so we went with AAA YouTube’s Spanish version. As it turned out, the video packages had English subtitles and the only real difference was not hearing Corey Graves, JBL & Rey Mysterio.)

Then. Now. Forever. Together!

We’re still in Mexico City! Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice are CHATTING WITH YESCA! War Raiders are WALKING! Psycho and his fellow Clowns are WALKING!

Joaquin Wilde vs. Lince Dorado vs. Aerostar: Aerostar was one of my favorites back in the Lucha Underground days. Been awhile since I’ve seen him, unless I’m forgetting something. (It’s possible.) Lince attacks early, flips around and arm drags Wilde. Aerostar gets backbroken and clotheslined down for two. Lince takes Wilde down by the hair and pulls it for awhile. Lince gets double superkicked out of the ring. Wilde focuses on Aerostar. Lince dives into an atomic drop, Aerostar gets neckbroken while DDTing Lince. Aerostar can’t really take advantage, but does kick Wilde out of the ring. Aerostar gets flapjacked by Lince, who then dives onto him on the floor. Wilde dives onto both of his opponents from the top rope. Wilde with a flipping neckbreaker on Aerostar, then he ties Aerostar’s legs up so he can pose on top of him. Lince grabs Wilde’s hair again. Double stunner by Lince, a back scratch and stabber on Wilde gets two. Wilde dumps Lince out of the ring, Aerostar vaults into a Wilde superkick. Wilde hits a face buster for two, then goes up top. Aerostar meets him there. Wilde goes for the sunset flip powerbomb, eventually gets it, but Lince dives onto both of them. Lince with a brainbuster to Wilde, Aerostar breaks the count. Aerostar dives onto Lince on one side of the floor, then Wilde on the other side. Cutter by Aerostar, who walks into a knee. Aerostar hits Lince on the top rope, follows him up. Lince goes for the powerbomb, Aerostar blocks, and Lince rolls through a Frankensteiner by Aerostar and gets the three count!

Winner: Lince Dorado (7:04 via pinfall)
Match Rating: **3/4
This was a fun little match with a ton of dives. The fans loved it. Dorado going over is interesting, perhaps they have some plans for him. He’s been very active defending the company on social media lately, so it kinda makes sense.

The War Raiders attack Murder Clown. Pagano & Psycho come to his rescue.

Dorian Roldan talks to his mother about the opportunities they’re missing out on. El Hijo del Vikingo should be the IC Champion, but Mini Vikingo ruined everything. AAA missed out on some WrestleMania rub. Dorian says the company needs leadership, and he should be named General Manager because he has the skills to take AAA to the next level. Marisela Pena says it’s been a tough year and Dorian has had to do difficult things. She asks for a week to think about it.

Mixed Tag Team Championship: Lola Vice & Mr. Iguana (c) vs. La Hiedra & Dinamico: This is Lola’s first appearance since winning the NXT Women’s Championship. One hopes that her responsibilities as champion don’t keep her away from this show regularly. Lola & Hiedra talk some smack to each other. Iguana & Dinamico start. Yesca is already out and Iguana has him in his mouth for a headbutt. Rana by Iguana, Yesca covers for one. The ladies tag into the match. Hiedra & Lola exchange strikes and tieup. Wristlock by Hiedra, Vice with an arm drag. Lola with a shoulderblock & dance. Hiedra with a dance of her own, they take each other down for nearfalls. Hiedra with a shoulderblock & dance. Hiedra goes for an elbowdrop but ends up in an armbar. Iguana armbars Dinamico. Dinamico powerbombs out of it, then Lola hits her quick kicks on him. Hiedra clotheslines Lola down, teases a hip attack on Iguana in the corner but Dinamico comes in with a dropkick. Hiedra takes over on Lola briefly, then taunts Iguana while chinlocking Lola. Vice fights out and hits a back suplex. Iguana with the never ending headscissors on Dinamico, then a rana gets two. Dinamico hits a cutter on Iguana, that gets two. Dinamico down in the corner, Vice backs it up on him. Hiedra tried to intervene, that didn’t work. Iguana & Dinamico go down outside, Lola & Hiedra go back & forth. Hiedra goes after Yesca and gets kicked to the floor. Lola dives onto him. Dinamico with a spin kick, then a pop up powerbomb gets two on Iguana, who the fans chant for. Dinamico sets Iguana up for something, Iguana goes to the eyes, then hits a modified DDT that gets the three count.

Winners: Lola Vice & Mr. Iguana (7:54 via pinfall)
Match Rating: **1/2
As usual, a fun effort from Lola & Iguana with Hiedra playing her role well. You can plug pretty much anybody else in there and make it work for the people.

We go to clips from last week, when Original El Grande Americano made a fool of himself by attacking a celebrity and then going after a woman. El Grande Americano 2 made the save and they brawled all over ringside. In two weeks, the Americanos will sign a contract to face each other at Nocho de Los Grandes in a Mascara Contra Mascara match, which should be incredible.

Grande 2 tells us that what he said at Rey de Reyes came from the heart. He’s talking to a beloved legend that won Rey de Reyes, El Texano. Texano says that the love of the Mexican people stays in the heart. Grande says he wasn’t here when they started lucha, but now he has to defend it, and he wants to team with Texano in the name of what he and all the other legends started. Texano sees how the people love Grande, and he respects that, along with Grande agreeing to a mask match. Texano agrees to team with Grande for AAA.

Next week, Grande 2 & Texano will team against El Mesias & Mecha Wolf. Rey Fenix will be in action! We see some clips of Catalina ruining Flammer’s celebration last week, and we’ll hear from Catalina next week. Next, Psycho Clown vs. Ivar! We see a video package covering the recent rivalry between the War Raiders & Psycho Circus over the Tag Team Championship.

Psycho Clown vs. Ivar: Erik & the clowns accompany their friends to the stage, but are not stationed at ringside. Crowd is solidly behind Psycho, who exchanges corner splashes with Ivar. Ivar wins that battle & runs Psycho over. Psycho’s rollup doesn’t work, he lands some strikes and hits a twisting splash before taking Ivar to the floor. Psycho hits a running dive through the turnbuckles! That was cool, but Ivar gets him with a powerslam soon afterward. Psycho gets whipped around the ring by Ivar. Psycho fights back before getting kneed down. Psycho kicks Ivar, lands a strike and a running enziguri. Ivar squashes a running Psycho to the mat, then goes for a Broncobuster! That misses, and Psycho kicks Ivar before going up top and hitting a split legged moonsault for two. Psycho tears his shirt off and goes for the mask, but Ivar stops that. Psycho hits him down in the corner, then hits the facewash kick. Psycho dives into a spinebuster from Ivar, Ivar slams Psycho and goes up top. Ivar misses the moonsault! Psycho’s lift fails, Ivar takes him down and hits a Pearl River Plunge for two. Psycho gets placed up top and chopped. Psycho hits a sunset flip powerbomb and a Code Red for two. Ivar misses a spinkick, Psycho kicks him into the referee, then lifts Ivar for the Emerald Flowsion! The referee is down and unable to count, so here comes Erik! Psycho fights back on him, but Eric knees him in the back of the head and then they hit the Viking Experience for the three count!

Winner: Ivar (8:44 via pinfall)
Match Rating: ***
I think Psycho Clown is a better in-ring guy that he gets credit for. Is he kind of like the Mexican version of Jey Uso? I’d say Psycho is better than Jey, but it’s a similar kind of vibe with them, and they’re both super popular with some & hated by others.

Pagano appears, but the damage is already done. Psycho argues with Pagano, wondering why he wasn’t out a little bit earlier when Erik was costing him the match. Shoves are exchanged in the aisleway. We then see them walking backstage, Psycho wants to know why it’s always the same with him and he doesn’t listen. Pagano says that Psycho needs to be careful with what he’s accusing him of. They go separate directions, and Psycho sees a down Murder Clown! One of Pagano’s shirts is by him, and Psycho yells PAGANO as we end the live broadcast. So long for now!

Another fun episode of AAA here. Right now they've got the perfect balance of in-ring goodness and angles people care about, along with some entertainment for the folks. WrestleMania wasn't so bad, but I enjoy the vibes on this show much more than other WWE programming.
