As previously reported, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair expressed anger that his apparel deal with Roots of Fight was cut off due to an apparent edict from WWE. Roots of Fight also features other WWE Hall of Famers and alumni, including Bret Hart and Roddy Piper.
In the latest edition of Fightful Select Answers Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp answered a fan question regarding the matter, and why Roots of Fight had to dissociate with Ric Flair, when they still have other wrestling apparel available, and if Roots of Fight has a direct partnership with WWE.
Sapp explained that Ric Flair is still widely believed to have a contract with AEW, which is likely what caused Flair and Roots of Fight to discontinue their relationship. Sapp notes that the current terms of Flair’s AEW deal are unknown.
As noted, the former WWE World Champion later walked back his initial rant over the issue, explaining that he understood the business. He added that he was “not even mad at the people that took it away from me. I was at first, but I understand business. And business comes first. You always wanna think they’ll make an exception, but sometimes exceptions just can’t be made.”
