TNA Slammiversary may have signaled the “new era” of several creative changes within TNA.
According to Fightful Select, TNA has reshaped parts of its creative team following the departure of Tommy Dreamer, with multiple names taking on larger responsibilities behind the scenes. Although Dreamer’s exit was publicly described as a mutual decision, Fightful reports that TNA “let him go.”
The report states that Dreamer still had supporters within the company. However, it also says many members of the roster were ready for a change after they had “long been frustrated with creative.”
Following Dreamer’s departure, Hunter Johnston, better known to wrestling fans as Delirious, reportedly stepped into a more significant creative role. Fightful reports that a longtime TNA name expressed excitement about what he would do. Another source added that Johnston was never considered at risk of leaving because he was not “a part of the creative problems in TNA.”
The report also notes that Eric Tompkins is becoming more involved in the creative process. According to TNA sources cited by Fightful, he was responsible for the AJ Francis segment that aired several weeks ago. The segment reportedly received positive feedback, and talent also credited him with contributing to several other segments over the years.
Another notable addition is Road Dogg. Fightful reports that his arrival had been planned for “quite some time.” He was backstage at Slammiversary, although it remains unclear whether he directly contributed to the show.
According to the report, “some past regimes” had spoken highly of Road Dogg and believed he “would be a good person to bring in if available.” Despite the creative changes, Fightful says there has been no major shift in TNA’s plans over the last few weeks. The report adds that the Women’s TV Championship has been part of the creative roadmap for some time and remains on schedule.
Sources speaking to Fightful also said they were pleased with how Slammiversary came together. The event reportedly received good internal response for both the crowd reaction and the in-ring performances across the card.
