Ray Borg Releases Statement on UFC 215 Withdrawal
As previously reported, Ray Borg was forced to withdraw from his scheduled UFC 215 title bout with Demetrious Johnson due to an illness that caused him to be pulled from the fight card. Earlier today, Ray Borg released a new statement on the fight withdrawal to MMAWeekly.com.
Borg cited another statement made by his nutritionist, Dr. Michelle Ingels of Perfecting Athletes, from earlier today (via MMAFighting.com), which said that Borg’s illness forcing him to withdraw “wasn’t weight related.” Borg has missed weight for two out of his last four fights in the UFC. He stated the following:
“First, I want to say I’m sorry to the fans and to Demetrious Johnson for being unable to fight. I want to say thank you to Dr. Davidson, the UFC and to Jeff Novitzky for looking out for my health and best interests. I also want to add that I am no longer working with Perfecting Athletes and Michelle Ingels, who was not authorized to speak on my behalf.”
UFC 215 will still go forward as planned with a new main event. UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is still scheduled to face Valentina Shevchenko in a rematch with the belt on the line, which will now be the headliner for the fight card. Both competitors made weight for the fight.
UFC 215 is set for tomorrow, September 9 at the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Canada. The main card will be broadcast live on PPV. The prelims will be shown on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
