Denis Villeneuve Gives Dune Messiah Update, Says Script Is Being Written

Denis Villeneuve will return to the world of Dune with Dune Messiah, and he says the script is currently being written. Villeneuve wrote and directed the first two Dune films, and he spoke with the New York Times promoting Dune: Part Two’s digital release. During the interview he confirmed that he’s at work on the script for the third film.

“That anger is tremendous,” he said about Chani (Zendaya’s) emotions at the end of Part Two. “I don’t want to reveal what I’m going to do with the third movie. I know exactly what to do. I’m writing it right now. But there’s a lot of firepower there and I’m very excited about that decision.”

Villeneuve will be directing Nuclear War; A Scenario before he goes into production on Dune Messiah. Dune: Part Two is the highest grossing film of 2024 thus far with $237.7 million domestically and $686.1 million worldwide.
