Marvel TV Head Says Studio Looking More Toward Ongoing Series
Marvel Studios is looking toward doing more shows that last beyond a one-and-done format. Brad Winderbaum recently spoke with EW promoting the upcoming Agatha All Along series and talked about how the studio is approaching the development of shows with a new eye. Many of the studio’s previous shows were planned for one-season before tying back into films such as WandaVision and Falcon & The Winter Soldier, but Winderbaum said that the new approach will take more of a standard television format.
“Now we are thinking about television really more like traditional television where they could last for multiple seasons, where we can see the characters brew in the culture for hopefully many years,” Winderbaum said. He added that their approach to developing shows will also be more traditional, leaning toward pilots and giving them a fuller idea of what the shows will be before greenlighting them.
“One thing we are doing is we’re developing a lot of shows now simultaneously,” Winderbaum noted. “So, in a way, we’re making television more in a traditional style where we are going to write multiple pilots and show bibles before we decide what we want to produce and actually bring to the screen, which gives us an opportunity to experiment and also to plan all sorts of different Marvel sandboxes.”
Agatha All Along, which stars Kathryn Hahn as the character she played in WandaVision, arrives on Disney+ on September 18th.
